MORGANNE DAVIS

I’ve had a passion for music since I was young, whether listening to it or dancing to it. There wasn’t a day that went by without me discovering new tunes! However, the idea of working in music didn’t occur to me until way later in life. I was a dedicated follower of Electric Hawk for a while before joining the team. Their genuine love for the underground and top-tier music curation drew me in. A friend of mine, and former EH editor, Natalie, encouraged me to apply as a writer, actually! Shortly after I was hired, I knew that that was exactly where I was meant to be. I was so excited, and I worked my butt off writing article after article. Soon, I was encouraged to step into the role of an editor, and the rest is history!

As the EIC, I oversee a lovely group of writers and editors. Our publication is definitely a team effort, but I help to keep everyone engaged and on track. I also write and edit articles myself while assisting with any EH leadership duties. Also, one of my favorite parts of the job is facilitating all on-site festival/event opportunities for the publication. It’s an honor to connect our writers with artists/labels they look up to for interviews or exclusive premieres.
The attributes that have helped me so far would be the ability to adapt and being unapologetically myself. I thrive in chaos, and the music industry can be quite chaotic! I do my best to stay calm in certain situations in order to uplift and help my peers or teammates when needed. Also, I strive to always be genuine and make meaningful connections with everyone I meet.

Advice: My advice would be… don’t be afraid to start small. And never view other women in the scene as your competition. It’s hard out here for us girlypops, and we gotta stick together.

Tara McGovern

I started working in the dance industry over 10 years ago, starting as an intern at Global Dance. I went to my first Global Dance Festival the summer of 2014 after I graduated high school and immediately reached out about intern opportunities. I started working with Global in the spring of 2015 and was with the company until 2025 rising to the role of marketing director and handling brand, digital and social strategy for multiple festivals, large scale shows and club nights across Colorado and other nearby markets. Alongside my work at Global, I worked in various roles in my time in music, including tour management, artist management and freelance consulting for multiple artists, festivals and venues, and ultimately jumped into a freelance marketing role working alongside multiple clients such as ILLENIUM, Juelz, Tom & Collins, Autograf, ROZ and more and also working with digital agency Pizza Cake as their Digital Director overseeing various clients paid digital strategies to ensure brand growth, sales, etc.

My day to day includes checking in with artist teams on goals, planning strategy for releases, tours and overall brand growth and consulting on creative strategy to ensure success across various campaigns. This includes managing spends, identifying core audiences to try and reach, areas for growth that we can target and coordinating that all content is in line with brand vision.

Time management, keeping an eye on trends and staying up to date with relevant information in the scene is so important for this role. Especially in advertising, recognizing what artists and genre segments have room to be utilized or what verticals songs may find success can really drive the success of a campaign or for an artist/festival’s goals. I love coordinating crossover campaigns trying to utilize content that may synergize with gaming, fashion or other pop culture communities. Also just really have a love for the music and be kind to everyone around. This is such a chaotic but fun industry, and sometimes you gotta remember why you’re here and take the time to enjoy it. It keeps the passion alive.

Advice: This scene needs more badass brilliant women in it. Find your crew, push yourself forward and be kind to everyone. Some of the best friends I’ve had in my life came from this scene and collaborating on projects or just making memories at festivals together. Never compare yourself to others and just keep pushing yourself forward and find your unique skills that make you stand apart from everyone else :)

About a year and a half ago, I accidentally fell into concert photography and loved it from day one. What began as a creative experiment quickly grew into a passion, and I’ve been fortunate to make connections within the industry that opened doors to work with artists, venues, festivals and promoters. My 9 – 5 is software development, but my 5-9 is where the real fun begins. That’s when I log out of corporate life and step into my role as a freelance photographer in the DFW music scene.

One of the biggest contributors to my success has been not being afraid to ask for opportunities. You’d be surprised how many people will say yes if you put yourself out there, and once you get those opportunities, it’s about stepping up and capitalizing on them. My corporate background has also played a huge role, giving me the discipline to meet deadlines and the communication skills to work quickly and effectively with my contacts in the music scene. That mix of personality, persistence and professionalism has helped me grow quickly in this space.

Advice: “How hard can it be? Boys do it.”

Pamela J. Castelan

Pamela J. Castelan

The original intention was to be part of the advertising landscape, however Pam stumbled upon live events while pursuing her B.A. in 2013. One volunteer gig turned to a paid gig that snowballed to working events worldwide full-time since 2019. Wicked Oaks will mark Pam’s 22nd Disco Presents festival as the staffing & festival payroll assistant manager.

Currently, she’s half of the dream team – and perpetual employee of the month – of Misty Morales LLC, where she manages operations for a wide variety of events in a wide variety of roles for a wide variety of clients, including: staffing & payroll, box office, guest list, credentials, administrative work, and camping operations-to name a few. In her spare time she enjoys being an onsite tech support for ticketing platforms.

Pam got involved with the Disco Presents staffing department in 2018, a role where her team hires, manages, and pays 60-80 personnel depending on the event. She manages to learn everyone’s names, too.

She can often be found clad in overalls, elbow deep in spreadsheets and organized chaos. Day to day operations include religiously referencing self-made manifests and procedures for whatever event du jour is taking place. Understanding the task at hand and perpetually asking questions is how a successful event is made.

Pam would not be in the position that she is without the support, guidance, and patience from the extraordinary women in this industry, nor would she want to be in this industry without them. That, and also the incessant need to learn spreadsheet formulas and the propensity to keep track of everything is good for job security.

Advice: Think for yourself & stay inquisitive, remain whimsical & stay gold.

Lydia Reyes

I fell in love with dance at the age of three. From my early days performing with my high school drill team to joining the legendary Kilgore College Rangerettes, dance has always been the heartbeat of my journey. That passion carried me into the professional world, where I danced for the NBA as a proud member of the Dallas Mavericks Dancers.

Beyond the stage, I found a deep love for teaching and choreography working with studios and teams across the country through MA Marching Auxiliaries and American Dance and Drill Team. In 2006, I took a leap and founded my own entertainment company. Since then, we’ve lit up social and private events, music festivals, and charity stages nationwide. This year we will be celebrating our 10th year performing at Lights All Night.

As owner and manager, I shape stage concepts, design costumes, and book incredible talent. Years of performing, a sharp eye for artistry, and the ability to thrive under pressure have been my foundation. They’re what keep this vision moving forward, year after year.

Advice: Play the Long Game, Not the Hype Game.

Trends flare and fade, but integrity builds legacy. Focus on honing your craft, nurturing your audience authentically, and making choices that align with your long-term vision, not just quick visibility.

Fame is loud. Legacy is lasting.

Julie Campbell

Julie Campbell

Julie began her career in the bar industry in 1996, working at the original 8.0 in Uptown Dallas right after high school. After convincing management to let her bartend, she was soon asked to fill in at Soul II Soul on Lower Greenville. By age 19, she became the manager of both Soul II Soul and its sister bar, The Cavern. She dedicated her off-hours to honing her bartending skills and absorbing knowledge from industry owners and managers.

Her hard work led to an opportunity from peers and mentors – owners and managers of Dallas’s top concepts – to open her first nightclub. In 2001, at 21 years old, Julie launched Minc Lounge. Minc hosted an incredible lineup of artists, including Kaskade (their first headliner), Derrick Carter, Heather & Colette, Louie Vega, Jazzy Jeff, Questlove, Erykah Badu, and Boy George just to name a small few. Through Minc, she partnered with Erykah Badu at her Black Forest Theatre in South Dallas, managing and operating all bars for shows featuring artists like Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, Jill Scott, and Prince.Minc was sold in 2009, shortly after she partnered with new investors to open Barcadia in Dallas. She then moved to Austin to manage several concepts before returning to Dallas to become the Beverage Director for Barcadia and its sister concepts, Beauty Bar, It’ll Do, Pints and Quarts. She also became a managing partner at Mama Tried Honky Tonk in Deep Ellum.

A few years ago, a long-time friend and one of the partners of Silo approached her to be the Bar Manager, where she continues her career today. Overseeing all bar and weekly venue operations.

Throughout her professional journey, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early thirties and again with Metastatic Breast Cancer of the brain and lung in 2019. After multiple surgeries, a good rest during COVID, and continued treatment, she keeps rockin. When she is not at Silo, she is working hard on putting together her non-profit by the end of the year to help service industry women and men in North Texas who are diagnosed with breast cancer get back on their feet after treatment.

“Cheers to all of the Warriors. Keep fighting, we are all in this together.”

Advice: Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve something. Instead, just say, “Watch this!” It’s a powerful reminder to believe in yourself and prove others wrong with your actions. Especially when life is at its worst and you doubt yourself.

Lyric Golden

The entertainment industry has always been woven into the fabric of my life. Growing up in a family full of artists-from dancers and musicians to those working behind the scenes-I was immersed in creativity and the rhythm of performance from an early age. I majored in dance throughout school at various performing arts programs, but over time, I found myself more drawn to the production and experiential side of the industry. That early exposure shaped my path and made it clear that I wanted a future in this space.

In 2023, I had a defining moment while shadowing the Artist Relations team at Sunset Music Festival with AMB Event Group. Being behind the scenes, supporting artists and ensuring their needs were met, I saw firsthand how critical this role is in shaping the overall festival experience. Witnessing how a festival brings thousands of people together and transforms the atmosphere into something truly magical, I realized I wanted to help create that infectious energy by being the bridge between artists and the event.

I’m currently based in Orlando, Florida, where I’ve developed a multifaceted career within the live events and entertainment world. As an Artist Liaison at Celine Orlando, I coordinate artist arrivals, manage green room setups, handle timelines, and ensure performers feel supported from load-in to stage time. With Disco Presents, I manage the general store and contribute to operational and creative decisions that shape the fan experience. I lead efforts in selecting product offerings, setting menu pricing, and developing the store’s visual identity – from helping with signage designs to decorating the space to align with each event’s aesthetic. I train and manage on-site staff, ensuring they’re prepared, professional, and aligned with the event’s energy, while also overseeing inventory and logistics to keep operations smooth and the guest experience high-quality.

I also continue my work with AMB Event Group as an Experience Creator, helping bring interactive, immersive environments to life across multiple events. Our team curates campsite activities like group games and hands-on art stations-where attendees can create and take home pieces like terrariums or custom fans. We also build out visual art installations and unique attractions. At EDC Las Vegas, we created a full music park featuring instruments attendees could play and DJ decks for hands-on practice sessions. On the logistical side, I support staff lodging operations, helping coordinate RV placements and accommodations. Being adaptable, communicating clearly, and fostering genuine collaboration have been key to thriving in these fast-paced, creative environments. I love being part of a team that brings large-scale visions to life in a way that feels intentional and memorable. Each of these roles allows me to tap into different aspects of event production and stay connected to the pulse of what makes live events so impactful.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing within artist relations and production. I’m especially passionate about creating immersive, meaningful experiences that allow people to truly let go and connect – with the music, the moment, and each other.

Advise: Be open to change. Don’t hold back your ideas. And always make friends along the way – you never know who you’ll cross paths with again.

Michelle Li

I’ve dipped my toes into many corners of the music world, but harm reduction and public safety are where my true passions lie. My journey began in 2015 as a street promoter for regional shows and that opened the door to a community filled with good people, great music, and profound self-discovery. Shortly after becoming a promoter, I then dabbled as a marketing intern for 2 years. The dance floor has always been sacred to me, and from the beginning, I knew I wanted to help others experience that same sense of connection and community.

In 2020, I co-founded what is now The Remedy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit peer support organization that weaves together community wellness, harm reduction, and mental health with a simple goal – to make sure no one has to navigate these spaces alone. Our core belief is that we are all part of a remedy when we show up as our best selves. We also believe empowerment comes from reminding people how much strength they already carry in their own two hands.
The Remedy partners with the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health and other organizations to distribute free resources like Narcan, test strips, and Plan B to anyone in need. In 2022, we joined Elements Music Festival, where we provide sanctuary spaces, an outreach and roaming support team, and conflict mediation services. This past year, our program reached its largest scale yet, with 25 staff members and over 100 volunteers dedicated to making these environments safer and more compassionate.

Otherwise, when I’m not in the safety and harm reduction world, a lot of my time is committed to departments like staff catering and credentials for other events through the year. It can get hectic but the fruits of the labor are worth it. The qualities that I strive to achieve in my work are reliability, strong ethics, and a willingness to learn.

Advice: For those seeking a path for themselves, my advice is to remember to ebb and flow. Things won’t always be consistent or comfortable, but adaptability will take you far. The right people will recognize your effort if you work hard, stay accountable, and move with integrity. A wise friend once told me, “It’s not about how big your flame is, but how long you can maintain it.”

Advice: I would say deep and meaningful relationships have really helped me find my success. You never know who will vouch for you in a room you might not even know exists! I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t power through all the failures, no’s and rough patches. Every no has made me stronger and you gotta appreciate the learning that comes with failure.

MOLLY POLUS

Molly Polus

I was adopted from China and raised in Texas, navigating themes of identity and self-expression. Creativity has always been a part of me, but I didn’t fully embrace it until later. My professional career began in 2017, working at Apple while studying psychology and sociology at the University of North Texas. By 2019, I picked up a camera as an outlet and began experimenting with street photography, capturing everyday moments in Dallas.

I never really took photography seriously until I attended my first music festival, Lost Lands, in 2021. I was inspired by the raw connection between artists and the crowd, and that moment sparked my desire to capture live music through photography. After a chance conversation with a marketing professional at a local venue, I took the leap into the industry.

My first gig was photographing Chelsea Cutler at The House of Blues in 2022, and I continued building my portfolio while balancing a full-time job. After a year of providing press work for small venues, I began working with Disco Presents providing press coverage for festivals in Texas. My role expanded when Disco hired me directly for Texas Eclipse, where I provided sponsorship and experience photos for the in-house team. Since then, I have become part of their internal team for Ubbi Dubbi, Freaky Deaky, Shaq All-Stars, and Lights All Night. Additionally, I contribute media for Silo Dallas and work with touring artists when needed.

In November 2024, I left my corporate job after seven years to pursue photography full-time. Now, my days are a mix of creativity, strategy, and networking. I focus on telling stories through my photos–capturing the energy and emotion of live music.

Throughout my journey, authenticity and resilience have been key. I’ve learned to create art that resonates with me first, allowing me to connect more deeply with others. I embrace failure as part of growth and see creativity as a spiritual practice–a way to align with something greater than myself.

Advice: For anyone trying to break into media, own your space with quiet confidence. Trust your intuition. And never stop creating–not because you need to prove something to the world, but because it is an essential part of who you are. The world will catch up to your vision in its own time. Until then, keep honoring the talent within you.

MADDY GEORGE

Maddy George

I began my journey in the entertainment industry just before COVID, initially working with local promotional companies in the New England area as a street team member and performer. From there, I sought out more involved roles, gaining experience through marketing internships, assisting positions, and social media roles. In 2021, I secured a position with the incredible team at MP3 MAG as their social media manager, which later evolved into a marketing director role. Over the years I’ve had experience covering music festivals through editorial work, and briefly explored interviewing and event photography. Last year (2024) I had the incredible opportunity to begin working as a Publicist with MP3 PR.

My day-to-day responsibilities include leading and managing PR projects for MP3 PR’s growing roster of clients alongside an incredible team of visionaries. My work focuses on crafting compelling narratives, securing impactful media and press opportunities, consulting, and positioning our clients’ projects for success in a highly competitive market. I’ve assisted and led campaigns for a diverse range of teams, including AEG Rocky Mountains, Sublime, Jade Cicada, Of The Trees, EAZYBAKED, Tape B, ALLEYCVT, Mersiv, Barclay Crenshaw, DJ Diesel, and more.

The attributes that have helped me find success are determination, deep-rooted passion, and a willingness to keep moving forward despite obstacles. I’ve definitely had to learn to give myself grace and embrace the journey of being a work in progress in this field because I put a lot of pressure on myself to excel at everything right from the start.

Ultimately, knowing what I want out of life and refusing to settle for anything less has been the main force behind my achievements in this industry–along with just being grateful. Contributing to something bigger than myself and constantly being surrounded by creative, forward-thinking, passion-driven individuals is seriously the greatest gift I could ever ask for. Music has been the one constant throughout my entire life. This art and the community at large have been my driving force at my lowest points and I’m just beyond thankful that I get to wake up everyday and do what I love.

Advice: STAY FIERCE! Be unapologetically relentless in chasing your dreams and don’t shrink yourself. Stay authentic, lead with love, and believe in your power. If nobody hears you–get louder. <3

STACY MAJORS

Stacy Majors

I started gigging in 2005 catering the ACL music festival. It absolutely kicked my ass, and I was hooked from there. I stayed with that company (still actually work with them to this day!) and was able to create the liquids (water and ice) program for festivals, as well as work some phenomenal events along the way. ACL, Lollapalooza, Redbull X-Fighters, Avon Breast Cancer Walks, NFL Draft, and the Election Night and Inauguration of Barack Obama.

I’ve lived many lives and many places between gigs over the past 20 years but have never left the industry. There’s something about helping bring together all the moving parts of large-scale events that’s magical. No matter what positions I’ve held over the years (event / production / office / restaurant management, massage therapist, and even flying trapeze artist) they can all help sprinkle a little knowledge and skill to any project. Bonus fact, I turn 40 exactly 4 months from today! So, I’ve been giggin’ half my life!

I’m half of the dynamic duo Quartermaster team for Disco Presents. Also, a sort of site mom / site sister to my festival family.Together with Site Crew, we are the first in and last out boots on the ground that make the magic happen. The QM position is an evolving catch all for everything on site. *Quartermaster: A quartermaster is an officer who supervises logistics and requisitions, manages stores or barracks, and distributes supplies and provisions. In many navies, a quartermaster is a seaman or petty officer with responsibility for navigation and operation of the helm of a ship. We handle everything from rental and asset management, distribution of such, inventory, shipping and receiving, key master / keeper of the keys, motorpool, tool management, fueling, heavy equipment, and the liquids program (water / ice / cooler distro). The go-to team for anything you need. From a zip tie to a sky jack, we have it.

You’re only as good as your team, and I’m surrounded by the best! Showing appreciation and making people feel valued is key to a smooth working environment. Being coachable and eager to learn, as well as taking constructive criticism and improving is important. Keep it light and have fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Build and cultivate these relationships. Being organized, task oriented, and prioritization on those tasks is huge for me. I love a good list! In fact, I scribbled one out on paper just to get these thoughts out.

Paper notes are amazing. Never be too proud to write it down, especially when you think you’ll remember.

Advice: Anything you lack in experience; you can make up with attitude!

ADRIANA LEE

Adriana Lee

My journey into the music industry started 8 years ago with one big stroke of luck. I got into EDM in college and would go to LA all the time for shows and festivals but it never occurred to me that I could actually work on some of the shows I grew up going to. My background is in fitness. I’ve taught yoga, Pilates, and other fitness modalities for 12 years. My career started when a big EDM festival in my hometown added camping 8 years ago and was looking for yoga teachers. I got hired on for that show and then several others with AMB Event Group. I tried to make myself useful at those first festivals I taught yoga at and was quickly hired on to do more.

My day to day responsibilities include putting together interactive displays, creating pretty spaces that add to the magic, and running fun activities like a camp counselor. There’s a lot of logistics and hard work involved, of course, but it’s also been the most rewarding and creative position I’ve ever had.

Attributes that have helped me find success within your profession is teamwork for sure. I’m always willing to help with whatever I can. Creativity has also been huge for me, both artistically and finding creative solutions to make life easier. Communication is key and I’m not afraid to ask a ton of questions.

Advice: Things will take you places if you let them. Embrace your unique voice and never hesitate to carve your own path.

JENNY HOLCOMB

With a passion for event production and marketing, I began my journey in the entertainment industry nearly four years ago with Disco Presents, starting as an hourly staff member at festivals. I quickly fell in love with the fast-paced environment, the incredible people I met, and the unique experiences that each event brought. During this time, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management, which deepened my understanding of the industry and allowed me to take on greater responsibilities within the company.

Now, as the Vendor Operations Manager at Disco Presents, I oversee the hiring and onboarding of food vendors, retail vendors, and sponsors for each festival. During events, I serve as the main point of contact for vendors, ensuring seamless operations and an exceptional experience for all involved. In addition to this role, I also contribute to social media marketing at SILO Dallas, crafting compelling content that captures the venue’s energy and fosters a thriving community.

My success in this field stems from my strategic mindset, leadership abilities, and commitment to smooth execution. I thrive on creating with a strong vision and coordinating efforts to bring ideas to life.

Advice: I believe that confidence and consistency are key to success in any industry–trust in your abilities, take initiative, and stay dedicated to your goals. With determination and a willingness to keep learning, long-term growth is inevitable.

MANDA MILLER

Manda Miller-Martinez

I work as an Exec. Assistant to the Owner at AfterDark Entertainment, a Central TX based production company that hosts shows at The Marc, Bazaar, Mayfair ATX, Devil May care and more! I graduated from Texas State University in 2019 and have worked as an Admin at The Marc since 2018. Starting as a ticket scanner and street team promoter, I have since made my way to being an Admin for The Marc, handling anything from bookings to social media to harm reduction to box office management- there aren’t a lot of things I haven’t done at The Marc, which is why I call it my 2nd home! Another component of my work with AfterDark is our harm-reduction team called the AfterDark Angels. This team was re-vamped in 2022 and consists of amazing volunteers who are trained in Narcan distribution, SA response and prevention, and in overdose response. Originally, the Angels were a team of our top female promoters, but after the original founder left, I saw an opportunity for the Angels to have a higher purpose. Being in and out of 30+ shows every year, I would see time and time again how necessary harm reduction is in a concert/rave setting. And that’s how the AfterDark Angels were re-born!

I started working with Disco Donnie (Disco Presents) over 2020 at the famous Drive-in raves that I was connected to by some of my Marc staff members. After several years of doing box office for Disco, I now am happy to say I am a box office manager and have been absolutely thrilled with every experience I’ve had with DDP!
Outside of my work with AfterDark, I also curate my own local events in San Marcos TX under Dose of Dance and LGBTQ+ events under Loud & Proud presents. I also have been a DJ under the alias AMINAL since 2017

Currently, I am the Exec. Assistant to the Owner of The Marc and AfterDark Entertainment. This means I essentially do anything that needs to be done for the company, which could include handling bookings, finances, hiring and staffing for events, pitching and coordinating new event ideas, running our social media pages, managing interns, calendars and so much more. Its my job to make sure all the dots are connected between different departments and different businesses to make anything from big concerts to local weekly events happen smoothly and efficiently! Within my title, I also act as box office manager and merchandise manager, which requires me to handle anything having to do with ticketing, guest lists and merch for all of our large-scale shows. I have worked on ticketing for both AfterDark Entertainment and for Disco Presents on larger scale events, and I truly love it!

Being adaptable and having an open heart and mind are extremely important. Being able to quickly shift focus and adapt to the situations presented in front of you is super key to any part of this industry, whether it be on site operations or behind the scenes planning. Most times, I have been one of the first people someone sees when arriving at either my home base venue or at large festivals, so attitude and overall presence sets the tone for not just how people remember me personally but how people remember their experience as a whole. And when you love what you do, it becomes much easier to have a welcoming and bright attitude!

Advice: I held onto a fortune cookie that read “Don’t accept that others know better than you”. Yes, of course, keep an open mind always, but never doubt yourself in your skill and your knowledge, especially to women in music industry fields. Every day is an opportunity to learn, in all areas of life, but your voice holds so much power if you truly put your mind to what you want to achieve. Know and OWN your worth and never let anyone dim your light- shine on!!

Alyssa Pascucci

Alyssa Pascucci

I started both my creative career and my career in the music industry all at once in 2018. My first gig was an EDM boat cruise in Boston, and it all stemmed from there. I think timing and a little bit of luck played a role in my launch. I fell into the world of media + music all at once and at a time when there was great need for event content in Boston and not a lot of freelancers here working in it. I navigated the industry with the insight of a few who started before me, and had to practice a lot of trial and error to learn technical skills and business practices. Today, I am a hybrid photographer/videographer with my hands in a few niches! I work a mix of music, travel, live events, and brand projects. I’ve always found it difficult to narrow down my work, and while it can occasionally pull me in a few different directions, I love bringing influence from one niche into other projects!

In the beginning, it was to be a “yes” girl. If a contact referred my name and someone reached out, I’d say yes first and figure it out second. I was shooting and editing all hours of the day, all days of the week. Making myself available and capable played a large role in building reliability with the people who trusted me with their projects and referred me to others. As I grew in my career, learning when to say no and turn down jobs helped to not spread myself too thin or cause burnout. Best advice– be kind, helpful, and reliable!! You are working among so many talented peers, and it takes more than your creative skills to stand out. It is important to be the kind of person that people want to spend time around and can rely on.

Advice: My advice to other women in this field: You are so much more capable than you think!! Everyone faces imposter syndrome at some point in their career, and we are all truly figuring it out as we go. The secret to getting a job is delusionally and confidently putting yourself and your work out there, and you’d be amazed at the impact you can make :)

I’ve always been heavily into music and going to shows but didn’t know I wanted to work in it until college. I started to write for my college newspaper about shows in the area and upcoming music etc which gave me a good understanding of the scene. When I got an internship with an artist manager after graduating, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. After my internship I was lucky to begin my career in music at my current company, Confirmed. I began advancing shows and learned all other things along the way which has led me to my current role as an artist manager!

My current role as a manager consists of overseeing my artist in all ways – touring, brainstorming marketing activations, working on overall branding for my artist, oversee merch designs and shipments, pitch my artists music to labels, and more. Working alongside my artists to help them reach their goals while challenging them to try new things and offering them ideas to get there.

Some attributes I find helpful are just being open to learning all things, new or old. Whether it be marketing, label work, touring, social media, merch, artwork, etc – letting the people around you teach you and not to be afraid to make mistakes to learn along the way to get better. I like to keep things very light hearted and funny which I feel helps ease the tension in stressful situations while still getting the job done!

Advice: I think being kind goes a long way, and you attract great people with that mentality. My advice would be don’t compare yourself/your work directly to others and understanding someone else’s success isn’t a failure for you! There’s room for everyone to succeed :)

I started my journey with the promotional and performance team for Notion events in Chicago in 2015. I was then inspired by Liz Hagerty’s innovative work in festival content creation which drove me to independently develop skills in social media marketing and content creation. Soon after, I secured an internship as a social media manager with Electric Hawk, which opened doors to various contracted roles in site operations, box office management, performer coordination, and content creation.

Currently, I oversee the social media accounts for the Disco Presents festivals, concentrating on brand health and community engagement, while also collaborating with sponsors.

The key attributes that have propelled my career are my curiosity and passion. I’ve embraced every opportunity that came my way, approaching each role with professionalism.

Advice: I believe that if you are truly passionate, you’ll find a path to your goals. Building connections with industry professionals and seeking out diverse experiences have been vital to my journey, and perseverance has been essential in getting me to where I am today.

Growing up in Colorado and attending the University of Boulder (Sko Buffs), made it hard not to be immersed in the vibrant music scenes. Attending shows at Red Rocks, going to events like Decadence year after year laid the foundation for a love of Dance Music. Through attending shows I fell in love with the idea of being able to bring people together to share their passion for an Artist as well as getting to bring that Artist’s vision to life. Once I learned more about the various roles within the industry I found myself drawn to the live side of things which led me to an internship at the Fox & Boulder Theatres and then to Madison House. My time there helped to solidify that I wanted to pursue a career in the Agency world. After college, I moved to Chicago where I dove into the local music scene, and through maintaining and growing relationships I found myself at Paradigm Talent Agency as an Agent Assistant until the
pandemic. Like many when the world came to a halt, I found myself looking for a way to stay connected to the industry. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to help bring a drive-in series, Lake Shore Drive Inn, to the Chicago community. Having the chance to stay connected to this community helped lead me to my next role which was as an Agent Associate at Mint Talent Group. There I was connected to my amazing mentor Mary Allen who eventually brought me with her to United Talent Agency where I’ve been for the past several years.

In addition to my professional pursuits, another passion of mine is promoting inclusivity in the music industry, especially in the Dance/Electronic space. During the Pandemic, I got involved in She is The Music, which led to me helping start the Chicago Chapter of the organization. Through SITM I became connected to an incredible group of women who also shared this passion for creating an equitable community in the Dance space, Ronny Ho, Steph LaFera, and Anna Horowitz. Together we started a WhatsApp group which initially was just a space for women across the industry to connect but has since become an incredible community and resource called HerDancefloor. It’s been such an amazing thing to see this group grow and watch people connect and foster relationships.

At the beginning of the year, I was promoted to a Coordinator at UTA and in this role, I get to continue helping Artists bring their visions to life and develop their careers. In this role I help support Agents and their rosters while building my own roster which includes some exciting developing acts like LYNY, Effin, & Taahliah to name a few. My daily routine consists of routing tours, sharing offers with management, booking shows and helping to coordinate tour/show announcements.

I think most of this applies to any industry/job, but I think they go extra far in the current music
industry landscape. A strong work ethic, taking initiative, and great communication skills, especially interpersonal communication. Being able to maintain good relationships has been a vital part of how I got to where I am. You never know who’ll meet along the journey; those interactions will impact you! Another attribute I value is the ability to have perspective in this job. It’s important to me to do right by our Artists and also have great relationships with Promoters, but we live in a chaotic and sometimes painful world and it’s important to me to hold space for that to keep me grounded.

Advice: Surround yourself with people who share your vision of success. I think in this industry, like many, it’s easy to be blinded by someone else’s idea of success and let that drive you. But I feel it’s possible to have a successful career, work hard, and have a balanced and fulfilling life outside of my job (which is my idea of success).

My journey into the music industry began five years ago when I joined Kannibalen Records in an administrative role, handling accounting, reporting, and marketing budgets. Since then, my role has evolved, and I am now deeply involved in marketing, promotion, and artist management for major acts like Black Tiger Sex Machine (BTSM), Apashe, Dabin, and Kai Wachi. With the guidance of BTSM, I have also taken on my own roster of artists, including WODD and rising talent Rayjhin.

My connection to the bass and dubstep scene started in 2012 at a Kannibalen event in Montréal, where I instantly fell in love with the energy and heavy beats. This passion led me to a position at Kannibalen Records, where I now actively contribute to the scene I love by connecting with emerging artists and giving them opportunities to shine. One of my proudest projects is working on the label’s Christmas and Summer compilations, helping showcase new talent.

Transitioning from a corporate background to the music industry was challenging, but my resilience and dedication have helped me thrive. I’ve played a key role in organizing some of BTSM’s biggest events, including their Red Rocks and WAMU shows as well as their recent announcement of Church Dome at Tacoma Dome. This year, I had the chance to be an integral part of Dabin’s Stay In Bloom festival, working artist relations and will get the chance to run it back and now expand it to New York next year.

Being recognized as a ‘Woman of the Disco’ is a meaningful moment for me. While I’ve always felt valued at Kannibalen Records, this recognition from the wider music community feels empowering. I’m continuously inspired by the incredible women that I’ve crossed paths with in the industry–friends who uplift each other and are deeply dedicated to supporting their artists. I cherish the knowledge and experiences these women have shared with me and feel fortunate to be surrounded by such strong, inspiring individuals.

Advice: Believe in your worth, stay true to your vision, and always lift others as you rise–your journey will be defined by the strength and kindness you share along the way.

Emily Alworth

Emily Alworth

Emily got involved in college concert and music industry organizations at University of Maryland. She started as a brand ambassador flyering and went on to manage the promoter team for Nu Androids in DC while she was there. The company brought house acts that weren’t stopping in DC at the time and only in larger markets.

After college, Emily then took a marketing agency job to learn transferable skills that she over took to Elements Music Arts Festival where someone took a chance on her as the Marketing Director shortly after school. Working for a company putting on a camping festival and warehouse parties in the city taught Emily a lot about multiple markets and having a small team allowed her to learn and get her hands in everything.

Currently, Emily works as the Senior Manager of Marketing & Partnership Strategy at Avant Gardner / The Brooklyn Mirage. There, she leads full lifecycle marketing campaigns with artists from announcement, presale, on sale, and up until the show and works on paid advertisements, emails, SMS campaigns as well as growing and maintaining partnerships/relationships. A notable achievement that Emily is proud of was leading the marketing for her first Madison Square Garden show this past October and selling out Black Coffee!

Some of Emily’s attributes that have helped her reach success in her career include her ability to maintain relationships and keep in touch with others over a number of years to continue to grow network and reliability/dependability. At the end of the day, people want to work with people they enjoy being around that can get the job done. A little humor goes a long way!

Advice: Be open to roles that may not exactly align with your current skill set. It’s always worth it to shoot your shot even if it feels like a long shot. Don’t be afraid to shoot a DM or a cold email to a company you like for any ways you can get involved or spread the good word.

Gabi King Fernandez

Gabi King Fernandez

Gabi grew up singing and acting, and has been a music lover her whole life. After college, two of her best friends worked for Goldenvoice and would always guest list her for shows and festivals. After seeing their work lives, she knew she wanted to work in the music industry! Gabi spent 2 years networking with people in the industry and relentlessly applying to any music related job she could find! She kept getting rejected (or no reply), and then finally in 2018, she saw a job posting for the agent trainee program at United Talent Agency. A friend from her sorority worked for the HR manager, so Gabi reached out and asked if she would submit Gabi’s resume. Gabi did not live in LA at the time, but she wanted this job so badly that she lied and said she did, because she wouldn’t have been able to interview otherwise. Gabi had a 10 minute conversation with HR on a Friday, and they asked her to start that Monday! Gabi worked at UTA for 2 years, then transitioned to management, working for a small hip hop management company, then Red Light management.

Gabi has always prioritized her physical, mental and spiritual health, and her journey in the music industry taught her that sustaining her health was crucial both personally and professionally. In November 2022, Gabi’s mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and simultaneously had a brain altering stroke. Gabi was beyond devastated, but she refused to give up hope and continued her holistic practices to the best of her ability. This experience ignited a calling within her, compelling her to do something that felt more fulfilling, and help others understand how a holistic lifestyle serves you during the best times, and saves you during the worst.

Now, Gabi coaches music industry professionals, helping them achieve a healthier holistic lifestyle. Having spent several years in the music industry, Gabi understands how challenging it can be for individuals in this field to prioritize their health and wellness. With their demanding schedules and on-the-go lifestyle, finding a healthy balance can be a struggle. Throughout her years in music, Gabi saw so many talented, skilled people burn out and leave the industry because they didn’t have strategies for sustainability. Gabi’s goal is to help them achieve balance, so they continue to excel at their craft, while prioritizing their physical and mental well-being – mind, body and soul. Check out her website gabikingfernandez.com to schedule a discovery call and learn more about her offerings!

Advice: Be nice to everyone! It’s the right thing to do and it pays off to be a good person. Take care of yourself!! People in the music industry get burnt out quickly, and it is so important to take care of your wellbeing if you really want a long-term career in the industry. Get good sleep, eat healthy, meditate, exercise, spend time in nature and with loved ones, and enjoy your life! Never take no for an answer. Don’t stop until you achieve your goal. Everyone is on their own path, so be patient and know that good things take time. What is for you will be yours, and what is not will pass – trust that the universe will give you what you need. Enjoy the process and enjoy the ride!

Jess Vilonna

Jess Vilonna

Jess started off her career in the hospitality industry. She managed multiple restaurant teams, and later became Director of Marketing & Special Events for TITOU Hospitality in West Palm Beach, FL, where she oversaw three high end restaurant brands, and a handful of French bakery concepts. She always had a love for event production, and knew she wanted to get back to her roots in the arts and entertainment industry, where she had spent her years growing up in dance and theater. After experiencing her first camping music festival in 2017, she knew that this space was not only where she wanted to be, but where she belonged. As luck would have it, later that year Jess was introduced to Michele Servais from DDP through a mutual friend, and Michele offered Jess the opportunity to come on board for Sunset Music Festival on the Artist Relations team. Since then, her involvement with DDP has grown, along with opening other doors which allowed her to become a full time contractor starting in 2021.

Currently, Jess works as a Project Manager for AMB Event Group, where she handles an array of projects ranging from artist and talent relations, creative programming for camping festivals, vendor operations, site experience and more. She has also spent the last two years working on corporate events with experience marketing firm GPJ, as an Associate Producer on their Broadcast Live Production team for Google Next, Workday Rising and Snowflake Data Cloud Summit. No matter the task at hand, Jess can think quickly on her feet, and make game time decisions to get the job done. Her favorite projects are those where she can cultivate creative spaces for festival goers, to enhance their time on site, by adding value to their overall experience.

Some notable achievements include being a host and MC for multiple events during the Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival, along with working at various festivals and events across the US including Shaq’s Funhouse, Daymond John’s Black Entrepreneurs Day, EDC Las Vegas, Okeechobee Music Festival, Friendship and Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Weekender. A project which she is most proud of is supporting the Bahamas Relief Cruise, where she facilitated coordination for hundreds of volunteers who provided humanitarian relief to the residents of Grand Bahama Island after the devastating Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Finding success in any profession can be a challenge, but especially so in the entertainment industry, and especially as a female. Jess attributes her success to always being a team player, while being efficient and dedicated to any project. She credits her tenure in the restaurant industry which allowed her to develop versatile management skills, where her strengths evolved in organizational logistics and team building. She also gives a massive amount of credit to both her parents for instilling a strong work ethic from an early age, with the long lasting importance of being a self-starter.

Advice: Stay true to yourself and maintain your authenticity and integrity. Always be adaptable and learn to utilize your skill sets in different ways. Build a strong support network and surround yourself with colleagues and friends who can offer knowledge, experience, guidance and support throughout your career. Be resilient and learn to grow from past experiences – both good and bad, and evolve. Lastly, take the time to appreciate the good stuff. This industry can be draining and exhausting, but oh so rewarding. Take the time to relish in your accomplishments and say to yourself “Damn, we did that!”

As venues reopened their doors, her own promotion company, The Common Experience, emerged as a unifying force within the Carolina communities. Soon thereafter, Morgan’s expertise garnered the attention of Loud Crowd and Auris Presents, where she began marketing various shows across key cities such as Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte, Charleston, Atlanta, renowned venues like The Caverns, as well as festivals like ARC.
