Day After Artist Profile: R3HAB

artist r3habOver the past few years, Day After Festival talent R3HAB has quickly become a reputable name within the dance music scene. His constant motivation and arsenal of productions have created a unique energy that keeps his international audience coming back for more.

Born Fadil El Ghoul, the Dutch native acquired a taste for electronic music when he was 17 years old, but his parents were adamant about a college education first and foremost. It wasn’t until after he received a degree in Commercial Economics that R3HAB could truly devote to his music career, “Yeah so I had to finish [university] for my mother and then I got back into music. Now I’m producing music full time. It’s awesome and it’s going really well. I thought it would be hard to make music full time because you have to get inspiration. It worked out pretty well though.” Worked out pretty well is big understatement.

Adopting the stage name of R3HAB, the talent burst onto the scene in late 2008 after producing “Mrkrstft” with fellow Dutchman and Day After Festival headliner Hardwell. The track became a huge club hit and R3HAB gained global support from fans and DJs alike. R3HAB quickly became one of the frontrunners of the Dutch house subgenre, alongside Afrojack and Chuckie, and was given the unofficial title as the most in-demand Dirty Dutch remixer. His skills have allowed him to work with artists like Madonna, LMFAO, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, and Pitbull.

Since his debut, R3HAB has gone on to release a series banging tracks including his remix with Quintino on Tiësto’s “Chasing Summers,” “Pump The Party” with Ferruccio Salvo, and more recently, his efforts have shot up Beatport’s Top 10 with “Revolution,” a collaboration with Ummet Ozcan and NERVO.

Currently celebrating the premiere of the smasher “Flight” with Steve Aoki, get ready to pump the party with R3HAB at Panama’s Day After Festival on January 10-12th. Tickets are now available, purchase your tickets online today!

Day After Artist Profile: Dannic

artist dannicFrom his modest beginnings playing at some of the Netherlands’ smallest bars, Day After Festival talent Dannic has captured the attention of an international audience through his incomparable mixing skills and his knack for delivering sexy, funky, and energetic performances. Though we remember a time when Dannic was fairly unknown, the talented DJ and producer has quickly achieved a thriving recognition that is well-deserved.

Born in Breda, a city in the Netherlands where Day After Festival headliner Hardwell also hails, Daan Romers never had the intention of becoming a widely known artist. Despite his experience with mixing at small local bars, the idea of becoming a house DJ came in 2009 after winning a DJ contest, “Some people think I just jumped into the scene and suddenly I was there. I’ve been a DJ for ten years. I started in a local bar playing all kinds of music from Robbie Williams, 70s, 80s, hip-hop, 50 Cent, I mixed it all together. I did weddings and stuff. I had my own equipment at home. I gradually became more and more interested in house music. I then entered a contest and won a spot on Dancetour which is a small festival in my hometown Breda. I got to play for 10,000 people. That was really awesome. From that moment on was when I had the idea of becoming a house DJ.”

Romers continued his streak of contest wins by entering a remix competition put on by Funkerman. Romers rearranged the track “Automatic,” which was later released on the widely recognized Flamingo Recordings. The spotlight on the rising talent only grew brighter thanks to his 2010 release “Get Down Girl” under the moniker DJ Funkadelic. After the success of that track, remix requests came pouring in from the likes of Armand van Helden, Nicky Romero, and Chuckie.

In 2012, the world first met Dannic. Under his new moniker, his first solo track “Doster” was released on Revealed Recordings with relative success. Following his pseudo-debut, Dannic collaborated with Hardwell on “Kontiki,” which climbed its way to Beatport’s Top 10 charts. Through recognition and support, Dannic is an integral member of the Revealed Recordings family – and rightly so. The talent can structure any set with ease and has an impressive audio arrangement technique to back it up.

This year, Dannic has been touring the world while releasing hit songs in the process like “Blue Print” with Sick Individuals and his most recent release with a remix of Mako’s “Beam,” which is currently sitting at #2 on Beatport’s overall chart. Get ready to get beamed up when Dannic takes the stage at The Day After Festival in Panamà City, Panamà this January 10-12th.

Day After Artist Profile: David Solano

artist david solanoWhether he’s cooking up some hit tracks in the studio, or performing in front of thousands, Day After Festival artist David Solano remains a dark force in dance music today. Having had much success being involved with some of the genre’s most respected charts and labels, there’s no denying Solano is taking the club scene by storm.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, Solano has been an avid music lover for quite some time, “Music has always been a part of my life. I was in a band since the age 13 where I played guitar. I always thought I would be either a rock star with my band or a professional soccer player, which was my other passion.” After moving to his current residence of Miami at the age of 15, the metropolis opened up a new passion for the teen – dance music. “When I first got into EDM, trance was the biggest genre. I was following guys like Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, and George Acosta. I was also a huge fan of hardstyle guys like Deepack, all of whom have definitely influenced my style.”

Embracing every aspect of his music discovery, Solano went to the drawing board and began producing. Luckily, his band experience proved to have been a bigger aid than he imagined, “When I was in my band I always liked playing the other instruments as well, like when we took band breaks, I would jump on the drums and go crazy ’til the drummer would tell me to stop because I was fucking up his drum sticks and [I had a] similar scenario with the keyboard and bass. That’s why I got into EDM. When you produce a house track, you basically play every instrument.”

The world started seeing Solano’s name for his remixing efforts in 2010 on tracks like “Acid Trip” and “When The World Began,” the latter of which appeared on many compilations and radio shows like Tiësto’s world-famous Club Life podcast and the Juicy Ibiza series. In a phrase, Solano hit the ground running and his music productions continued to be more popular than the last. Solano continues to rise as one of the most highly-requested up-and-coming artists in the industry which is why it came as no surprise that the World’s largest paint party, Life In Color, named him resident of the renowned event.

Every year has seen one big room hit after the other like his “Brass Knuckles” remix with Leewise, his remix of Robbie Rivera’s “All We Are,” and his original tunes “Striker” and “Kaboom.” Lest we forget his recent collaboration with R3hab for Life In Color’s official anthem “Do It.”

An expert in electro and progressive house anthems, we can’t wait to go kaboom in Figali Plaza when David Solano makes his way to Panamà City for The Day After Festival on January 10-12th. Buy your tickets and secure your spot to the celebration today!

Day After Artist Profile: Calvin Harris

artist calvin harrisDriven by persistence and an uncontrolled passion for music, singer, songwriter, producer and Day After Festival talent Calvin Harris, continues to wow audiences with his intriguing and surprising sounds. Performing at some of the most high-end nightspots and festivals around the globe, Calvin Harris is hands down, one of the world’s most in-demand DJs.

Known to his postmaster as Adam Richard Wiles, Calvin Harris was born in the southern city of Dumfries, Scotland. He became first drawn to electronic music around 1999 in his teen years as he began to record demos at home. A few years later, after moving to London, Harris recorded his first two songs “Da Bongos” and “Brighter Days” under the moniker Stouffer. Though his follow up track “Let Me Know,” with vocalist Ayah had relative success, Harris decided it was time to go back to the drawing board. He dedicated his time by branding himself and posting solo recordings through on MySpace. And as fate would have it, deeply rooted dance music veteran Tommy Sunshine came across Harris’ beats and released some of his earlier recordings on his Xylophone Jones Recordings imprint before Harris was eventually signed to EMI later on.

Calvin Harris’ debut album I Created Disco, released in 2007, debuted at #8 on the UK Albums Chart and by the following year, it was certified gold. Audiences instantly loved tracks like “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls” for their catchy lyrics and universal melodies – a quality that Harris has come to master, “You need three or four really catchy hooks. It doesn’t matter what they are, whether they’re musical hooks or lyrical hooks. You need some kind of sound in there that someone hasn’t heard before. Or sometimes you can take a sound or an idea that happened 30 years ago that nobody’s really thought about for a while, and you can update it and incorporate it into a modern setting.”

With his career ever on the rise, other industry greats began to take notice. Harris’ talents grabbed the attention of Australian artist Kylie Minogue, Kelis, Ellie Goulding, and his efforts on Rihanna’s “We Found Love” earned him many awards from Billboard, the IDMAs and the coveted Grammy’s. In 2011, his escalating success went into overdrive after releasing “Feel So Close.” “It’s an emotional, almost an emo vocal. I can’t remember the last time guitars were in dance music like that. Also, it’s all real instruments. Nothing’s fake there: it’s real music, real melody and actual emotion. A lot of dance music now, it’s about being in the club and popping bottles over this cheap-sounding synth that people can make so easily and get somebody else to mix. I’m not about that.”

Currently, Calvin Harris is celebrating his collaboration with Alesso on the track “Under Control.” One thing’s for sure, Harris will definitely have Figali Plaza under control as he makes his way to Panamà City, Panamà for The Day After Festival on January 10-12th. artist billy the kitOften called one of the most promising talents from the Dutch electronic scene, Day After Festival talent Billy The Kit knows how to move an audience with his energetic, diverse, and unbreakable sounds. So it comes as no surprise that the house DJ and producer is performing and selling out some of the largest venues and festivals around Europe.

Native to The Hague, Netherlands, Joost Seilberger was influenced by music early on, “My father played in several bands during the 60s, so music was as important in the family as anything else. [When I was younger], I started experimenting with music, playing instruments like the saxophone and the piano. At the age of 14, I started producing, DJing and buying vinyl.” Mixing all kinds of music with various mediums, his diverse background with music brought him closer to understanding how to express his unique style.

Channeling that style, he started to make a name for himself as a DJ with his own party every Saturday at a small local bar in Leidschemdam. After a move to Tilburg to study, he scored a residency at La Paz in Eindhoven where he played alongside artists like Fedde le Grand. Though Seilberger made his debut during his previous years as a DJ, his breakout year was in 2011, when he was signed to the influential EMI Music imprint. His first single “Don’t Be Shy” as Billy The Kit, which immediately scored well in Dutch charts, became the anthem of the Dutch MTV Awards that same year.

Day After Artist Profile: NERVO

artist nervoAustralian sisters Liv and Mim of NERVO are the type of people who are seemingly good at everything. The Day After Festival talents are hit songwriters, producers and DJs whose skills have become essential for some of the world’s most popular artists. With their catchy lyrics and melodic electro-pop sound, these ladies are bridging a gap between the underground and Top 40 while still living their motto, “Art before chart.”

Their monumental success in the music industry is certainly no surprise given their early exposure to music. Born to Italian immigrants in the suburbs of Melbourne, the twin sisters engulfed themselves in all things musical. “Our parents were very nurturing,” Liv says. “Anything we wanted to do, they would make it happen.” “We had violin lessons, piano lessons, singing lessons,” Mim says. “We did classical singing. We always loved to sing. But it wasn’t an option to be a musician in our family. You had to work hard, study hard and be a lawyer or a doctor. Our dad is an endodontist. Music was seen as a hobby — a luxury.”

But the sisters knew how to turn that “hobby” to good use. After signing a contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the duo made their songwriting careers a reality. Starting out in the mid-2000’s, Mim and Liv made a name for themselves by writing smash singles for artists like Ke$ha, the Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue. Their remixing efforts are equally as star-studded featuring superstars like Katy Perry and Cobra Starship. Their joint venture with David Guetta to co-write the Grammy-winning track “When Love Takes Over” would be a catalyst to their careers present day. Quickly building on that experience, the sisters began releasing music under their own name, NERVO. After working with artists like Afrojack, Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero on tracks like “The Way We See the World” and “Like Home,” the sheilas joined Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj for the Femme Fatale tour.

Always balancing a global tour schedule with their songwriting/production and making their own music, the two are also label bosses at NERVO Records. “Music culture is what turns us on so we want to be at the forefront of that by finding artists and bringing out their best with NERVO Records,” Mim says.

Bringing new music to their monthly show NERVO Nation on SiriusXM’s BPM channel, the sisters consider spinning essential to honing in on the perfect sound. “Since we’re not spending all our time in the studio anymore, we get to play our records when we DJ and instantly see how the crowd reacts,” says Mim. “We’re always educating ourselves with that feedback. And those moments when people have their hands in the air and they’re loving the tunes–it’s one of the best rushes you can experience. It means everything to us.”

Currently celebrating the release of their chart-topping collaboration “Revolution” with Ummet Ozcan and R3hab, get ready to be a part of the NERVO Nation when Liv and Mim make their way to Panamà for The Day After Festival on January 10-12th.

Good Eats, Better Drinks - Your Guide to Dining in Panama During Your Stay for The Day After Festival

When you make your way to Panama for The Day After Festival, you’ll notice how remarkably diverse the country is. As a transit point for international commerce in the past, Panamanians’ genes stretch from Spain, Africa, China and India, as well as the Middle East, Central Europe and North America. Because of this, Panama has a wide array of food just ready to be eaten.

The Basics

One of the best things about Panama is that it has excellent seafood. You’ll come across a lot of corvina, which is a type of sea bass that’s served grilled or as ceviche. Speaking of which; ceviche of all types is also very common in Panama. This includes octopus and shrimp. Another staple of the Panamanian diet is rice and beans. They are served alongside nearly everything, but are prepared in a variety of ways using different spices and herbs.

Panama’s national alcoholic drink is seco. Seco is made from sugarcane and is often mixed with milk. Beer is most popular of course and there are four local brands — Balboa, Atlas, Soberana and Panama.

Best Restaurant Bets

Las Tinajas

Located in Panama City, this friendly spot is the idle authentic and traditional Panamanian restaurant, offering tortillas, seafood, tropical fruits and typical entertainment.

Cafe De Asis

Cafe De Asis is one of the hippest little restaurants occupying a corner of the old town. Everyone who is in-the-know comes here. The owner makes a potent sangria by secret-recipe and also sells some of the best rums in the world.

Brooklyn Cafe

If you’re looking for some American treats, look no further than Brooklyn Cafe. Owned by a Panamanian woman who fondly remembers her time in the States, the NYC-style cafe is the perfect spot for a cappuccino or muffin, but the daily plato ejecutivo is also a huge draw because it is a slightly upscale version of the traditional Panamanian lunch.

Manolo Caracol

This restaurant is perfect for blending tropical tastes. The creative cuisine ranges from sole carpaccio to ginger prawns and beef tongue and fire-roasted lobster. There’s an open kitchen so you can to watch the cooks try to not burn stuff. Take advantage of the wide selection of wine to splurge on too.

La Rosa Méxicano

This is a hotspot for many. You can start with fresh guacamole handmade right at your table or move immediately to the cocktails which are even more impressive. Try the watermelon margarita topped with a sprig of rosemary.

El Mercado de Mariscos (The Seafood Market)

This is one thing you have to experience at least once during your stay in Panama. The Mercado de Mariscos is the best place to buy fresh fish in Panama City. You name it – they probably sell it. This is a true open market and there is an excellent restaurant right above the seafood market. You can actually buy whatever you want in the market and take it upstairs to the restaurant, where they will prepare it any way you like. Seriously.
