From his modest beginnings playing at some of the Netherlands’ smallest bars, Day After Festival talent Dannic has captured the attention of an international audience through his incomparable mixing skills and his knack for delivering sexy, funky, and energetic performances. Though we remember a time when Dannic was fairly unknown, the talented DJ and producer has quickly achieved a thriving recognition that is well-deserved.
Born in Breda, a city in the Netherlands where Day After Festival headliner Hardwell also hails, Daan Romers never had the intention of becoming a widely known artist. Despite his experience with mixing at small local bars, the idea of becoming a house DJ came in 2009 after winning a DJ contest, “Some people think I just jumped into the scene and suddenly I was there. I’ve been a DJ for ten years. I started in a local bar playing all kinds of music from Robbie Williams, 70s, 80s, hip-hop, 50 Cent, I mixed it all together. I did weddings and stuff. I had my own equipment at home. I gradually became more and more interested in house music. I then entered a contest and won a spot on Dancetour which is a small festival in my hometown Breda. I got to play for 10,000 people. That was really awesome. From that moment on was when I had the idea of becoming a house DJ.”
Romers continued his streak of contest wins by entering a remix competition put on by Funkerman. Romers rearranged the track “Automatic,” which was later released on the widely recognized Flamingo Recordings. The spotlight on the rising talent only grew brighter thanks to his 2010 release “Get Down Girl” under the moniker DJ Funkadelic. After the success of that track, remix requests came pouring in from the likes of Armand van Helden, Nicky Romero, and Chuckie.
In 2012, the world first met Dannic. Under his new moniker, his first solo track “Doster” was released on Revealed Recordings with relative success. Following his pseudo-debut, Dannic collaborated with Hardwell on “Kontiki,” which climbed its way to Beatport’s Top 10 charts. Through recognition and support, Dannic is an integral member of the Revealed Recordings family – and rightly so. The talent can structure any set with ease and has an impressive audio arrangement technique to back it up.
This year, Dannic has been touring the world while releasing hit songs in the process like “Blue Print” with Sick Individuals and his most recent release with a remix of Mako’s “Beam,” which is currently sitting at #2 on Beatport’s overall chart. Get ready to get beamed up when Dannic takes the stage at The Day After Festival in Panamà City, Panamà this January 10-12th.
