The weekend is made for fun with friends, going out, and definitely not thinking about work. This Saturday, October 26th will include all of that and then some, as Houston’s premier Halloween event, Something Wicked returns to the Sam Houston Race Park. Have you bought your tickets yet?

Henry Krinkle – Live At The Shelter Shanghai

Henry Krinkle is about 4,000 miles away from being considered a UK bass producer, but his productions may lead a listener to think otherwise. Recorded live from the The Shelter in Shanghai, this Wicked talent shared the set on Soundcloud.

Coining some of his tracks as lush house, this set is a perfect example of the phrase. Starting things off with his Lush Haus mix of Gold Panda’s “Vanilla Minus,” Henry uses these atmospheric textures in the background to create this airy headspace for a most relaxing track. The set also features other Wicked friend Cyril Hahn and his remix of “Please Don’t Say You Love Me.” We love everything about this mix – we’re giving it the nickname, Future R&B.

Adventure Club – Superheroes Anonymous Volume 3

Armed with red capes and spandex, the unstoppable Canadian duo, Adventure Club, are back with the third installment of their Superheroes Anonymous mix.

This mix is a pretty accurate snapshot of the most recent tracks that the boys are playing out live. Always testing varied BPMs, this mix ventures in big room house, trap, all while staying true to their dubstep roots. This mix also debuts their forthcoming single “Gold.”

Firebeatz – Firebeatz FM #006

The Dutch duo Firebeatz releases their Firebeatz FM series every month. For episode six, the boys introduce some (then) new tunes from Hardwell and MAKJ, Bassjackers and Gregori Klosman, Vicetone, Quintino and Blasterjaxx plus their remix of Calvin Harris’ new track “Thinking About You” featuring Ayah Marar.

On this edition of the Something Wicked drop, we’ve got a date with some superheroes and new free download of a twerk-worthy anthem.

Adventure Club adds new dates to their impending ‘Superheroes Anonymous Tour’

Québecois duo Adventure Club have announced additional dates for their “Superheroes Anonymous Tour” set to melt faces this fall. Taking over 30+ dates for a month-and-a-half, the full production tour is themed after their popular Superheroes Anonymous mix series and will be powered by 75,000 watts and have 77 encompassing LED panels. Talents DVBBS, Dallas K and Hunter Siegel will also be providing support on the entire tour.

Heading out in early November, their additional dates include New York, Philadelphia, Clifton Park, Sayerville, Hartford, Raleigh, and Orlando. Albuquerque, Jacksonville, Charlotte, New Orleans, St. Louis, San Francisco, Portland and Cleveland are just a few of the other markets who will be getting the superhero treatment.

This exciting news comes after les hommes d’Adventure Christian Srigley and Leighton Callou premiered their newest track “Gold” on Billboard a few weeks ago. The song will be the first single from their debut EP, Calling All Heroes Part One, due out on BMG in October.

Crizzly gives away ‘Retwerk’ of “Bust it Wide Open”

Something Wicked talent Crizzly released “Bust it Wide Open” back in 2011, giving the world an appropriate (or inappropriate) introduction to his distinctive sound, Crunkstep. Utilizing the perfect marriage dub and drumstep with a little southern hip hop influence, audiences are still moshing for Crizzy two years after the release.

Last week, Crizzly uploaded another “retwerk” to the series of remixes that he has recently been giving a fresh edits to. For the rework of “Bust it Wide Open,” Crizzly put a massive trap remix to the original. Still with the original vocals, we love the newly added fat bass and drops making for twerk-worthy anthem. Best part? It’s free!

Something Wicked is excited to announce that Rukes will be the official photographer to the anticipated Halloween event taking place October 26th! Having bought his first camera in 2004, Drew Ressler is now the go-to photographer for DJs and music festivals around the world. Known for his fisheye shots directly behind DJs and his ability to capture the emotion of the events, it’s no wonder people call him the #1 DJ photographer.

“I get to be a part of it and if I do my job well enough I get to share the experience with everyone else.” And if you’ve ever wondered where he got the moniker “Rukes,” “It comes from back in the AOL days when I was in random chat rooms. In a video game chat room in 1995 somebody said ‘This video game rules,’ but they misspelled it ‘rukes’ by accident. Little typos were the cool thing to do back then, so I just saw that and everybody started calling me Rukes. [Then] I started calling myself that as a joke when I worked with Paul Van Dyk, and he was the number-one DJ in DJ Mag, so I just put it in my Twitter profile back then, and I forgot to take it down. It eventually grew to be reality.”

His unruly locks may be the first thing audiences notice about Something Wicked talent Tommy Trash, but it his seemingly list of electrifying hits that keep fans fist pumping all night long and coming back for more.

Born Thomas Olsen in Queensland, Australia, Tommy Trash’s addiction to dance music began during university when he first started discovering clubs like Monastery in Brisbane. The love of the music made him switch out the classical sound he was studying and start making club banging tunes instead. Always experimenting, Tommy found inspiration from a variety of sources. “I went through a few different phases. In the early days, I was really into Felix Da Housecat’s Kittenz And Thee Glitz album. I had that shit on repeat! I’d go out and party all weekend, then I’d spend the week recovering with Felix’s album on repeat. After that, the Swedes started coming up. I really liked the early Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso remixes along with Axwell’s stuff. I loved Eric Prydz’ stuff, and the stuff Prydz did with Angello like Bedtime Stories. I was really inspired by that track. I think my sound now is really an extension of what Angello and Ingrosso were doing. If you listen to the ‘Buy Now For Sale’ record and compare it to my tracks, you can definitely hear the influences.”

Though Tommy made his debut in 2006 when he paired up with Goodwill for their remix of Sugiurumn’s track “Star Baby,” his breakout year would be in 2007 when Tommy released his first single “It’s a Swede Thing.” Signed to Ministry of Sound Australia, he released quite a handful of singles. Some of the releases were collaborations with Goodwill or with Tom Piper, and others were remixed tracks of Green Velvet, the Veronicas, and Armand Van Helden. As his career began to pick up speed, he started receiving some much deserved recognition for his bangin’ beats. Quickly given the title as one of Australia’s newest rising talents, Tommy’s nomination at the ARIA Music Awards in 2009 helped flag him as one of dance music’s biggest promises.

That nomination was spot on in fact, and a few years later, Tommy produced his biggest single to date. Released in 2011, “The End” garnered attention from some major heavy-weights like Tiësto, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, and Laidback Luke. Always mastering the art of in-your-face tunes, Tommy’s sound is the perfect combination of progressive and electro, incorporating cliff hanger drops and gritty synths.

Tommy has also been making a name for himself by his steady stream of high-profile remixes for the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, Steve Aoki and Zedd among others. With three successive Beatport #1’s and even a spot on Billboard Hot Dance chart, it is no wonder that Rolling Stone and MTV have marked him as “One To Watch.”

With a host of incredible tracks soon to drop, a residency at the brand new Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas and main-stage performances at some of the world’s biggest festivals, 2013 is looking like Tommy’s biggest year yet. Naming himself after the Japanese word for ‘warrior,’ Something Wicked talent Shogun has definitely soldiered on todays’s dance music scene. Though American-born, Taiwanese artist Shogun had been familiar with elements of electronic music from listening to bands like Nine Inch Nails, it would take a few years before he would have his interests piqued by the sounds of trance, “I really liked industrial. So a lot of the harder, darker stuff like Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy, Filter, even like Ministry. So pretty underground. These guys were big influences on me because you got the very dark, very heavy industrial music, but you also have the soulful elements to it. It has some emotional elements to it if you listen very carefully. So I was like, hey, why don’t they have stuff like this but focusing on more beautiful elements? And then I heard about Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren’s ‘Communication,’ so I was like, wow this in on a whole different level. It is like industrial music but with beautiful melodies. That is how I feel in love with trance.”

That fateful hearing of Armin Van Buuren’s “Communication” in 2002 led Shogun to become completely submersed in trance music and its culture. “I bought a VHS tape called the Invisible Scratch Pickles, and taught myself how to DJ on turntables from it. When my parents saw I was serious, they bought me a computer so I could start playing around on Fruity Loops and I eventually graduated college with a degree in audio engineering. After that, I went full time into producing my own music and DJing as Shogun. He began playing at local clubs, making a name for himself at his two year residency at Taiwan’s Ministry of Sound, warming up for DJs like Tiësto and Paul Oakenfold.

Often spending 12 hours in the studio, Shogun produced around 200 tracks in three years. His first single was signed by S107, sub-label to Armin van Buuren’s Armada, making him the first Asian-American to be signed to the prestigious imprint. “I got very lucky to be discovered and signed by Armin van Buuren and Armada, it was a dream come true. Now I’m working with some of my favorite producers who only a couple of years ago I was looking up to. It’s been quite a ride and there are some good things in store for the future.”

His songs continued to gain attention with support by the likes of Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, and Markus Schulz. And it wouldn’t take long before “Imprisoned,” “Save Me,” “Run To My Rescue,” and “Skyfire” would become anthems and cement Shogun’s name in the catalogue of other heavyweights. More recently, originals “UFO,” “Amplify,” “Lotus” and remix of BT, Arty and Nadia Ali’s “Must Be The Love” have all smashed the charts and been championed by some of the world’s top trance DJs.

A State of Trance is easily one of dance music’s most notable brands thanks to a world-renowned podcast and a series of spin-off parties around the globe. For the 600th celebration this year, ASOT took over a stage at Ultra Music Festival. Raking in over 20 years as one of trance’s biggest heavyweights, it comes as no surprise that Something Wicked talent ATB was chosen to play the event.

Featuring some exclusive mash-ups and some old favorites, ATB’s ASOT set reminds you why he’s been at the top of the trance game since 1998.

heRobust – Akomplice Mix

heRobust is definitely one of the artists making the biggest moves in the industry right now. He’s been making uniquely detailed releases while touring with the likes of Big Gigantic and Gramatik. Teaming up with the Akomplice clothing brand, whose philosophy is “Evolution Through Innovation,” heRobust has put out this mix that is a perfect blend of his productions and other sounds that exude that heRobust vibe.

Starting out with the theater classic “If I Were A Rich Man” from Fiddler On The Roof, the mix flows from some bass-led trap tracks into a more melodic vibe, and then weaves in and out of dubstep and moombahton. Shogun – White Room Sessions 016 (Live at Beta Nightclub)

Shogun‘s White Room Sessions features today’s hottest progressive trance music every second and fourth Friday of the month. Recorded live from Beta Nightclub, recently voted the #1 club in North America, Shogun showed no mercy on his enthused audience for this podcast’s sixteenth episode. Not even nine minutes into the set, Shogun drops Tiësto’s classic anthem “Adagio For Strings” instantly setting the tone for the rest of the performance.

We love the classic trance nod in this set. You might feel a sense of nostalgia as well as you strum through the hour-long mix. The sounds of the audience’s excitement is just the cherry on top to this pounding mix.

Although the name heRobust has just recently popped on our radar, Hayden Kramer has been producing for over a decade, “I’ve been producing music since I was maybe 15 or so. I started out making dirty south rap instrumentals and some classic hip hop tunes. As soon as I was exposed to electronic music, like Prefuse73 and Squarepusher, my music changed immediately. Things got weird in a pretty great way.” Hailing from Atlanta, Hayden has been infusing that southern hip-hop style through the many avenues of bass music.

His 2011 debut EP Albumin is a galactic glitch-hop masterpiece, filled with 8-bit bleeps and funky synths riding on top of heavy bass lines. “I released my debut EP online, and I started reaching fans all over the world. But thats only half of it. You think Atlanta radio plays L.A. beat cats? Nope. It’s the internet that exposes me to everybody’s work and keeps me inspired.” The following year, Hayden released a relentless stream of music. His double album Late Night/Morning After, the self-released Rob and Hood EP, “Screw Loose,” and lest we forget his seemingly countless free remixes.

Hayden’s latest adventure is a collaborative EP with friends Two Fresh. “It was great working with Two Fresh on this EP. We’ve been mutual fans and friends for a long time and they were some of my earliest supporters. The three of us grew up in the southeast on dirty south vibes and we all have an affinity for really creative sounds. I love this EP, it’s really a reflection of all of us.” Released on the revered imprint SMOG Records, as soon as Throw That was released, it almost immediately charted on Beatport and iTunes. The 5-track release is proof of a great pairing, showing a wide range and versatility, these two acts have a unique brand of hip-hop influenced dance music. The extended player successfully blends the tone of rap and hip hop with the intensity and danceability of dance music.

We love the refreshingly dynamic sound heRobust brings to everything he releases. His love of the “galactic” and being a self-proclaimed “synth nerd” emotes for a one-of-a-kind busting good time.
