Club Cirque Artist Profile: Schoolboy

artist schoolboyIf you’ve been keeping up with dubstep charts over the past few years, then you would have seen Schoolboy up near the top of them recently. Quickly establishing his name in dance music, Schoolboy has long been a fan of music in general. “Well, I’ve been fascinated by the inner workings of synthesizers ever since my early teens; the Roland MC-303 was the first piece of hardware I laid hands. Prior to producing I had a few guitar and piano lessons later performed in a few bands that further inspired me to produce music all my own. But what led me to produce in the first place had to do with a few albums – Robert Miles’ Dreamland was an album I would listen to religiously at the age of twelve, It changed my perception towards electronic music, so much emotion. The Prodigy ‘Fat of the Land’ had a huge impact as well.”

Though he had been releasing music on Cold Blank’s imprint Burn The Fire, after releasing his massive remix of Swedish House Mafia and Knife Party’s “Antidote” in 2012, Schoolboy garnered an incredible amount of support from the dance music community. Original bangers like “Checkmate” and “Always Be There” cemented the new talent as “one to watch.”

His highly anticipated The Science Project EP, released on Excision’s Rottun label in early 2012, has six bass-led tracks, like “Zombies Ate My Neighbours,” which quickly climbed the Beatport charts and became a fan favorite. His EP wasn’t the only release to do well. His remixes of “Why I Love You So” by Cassius, “Da Funk” by Daft Punk, and “Walk In The Fire” by Dirtyphonics gained support from the likes of Steve Aoki, Zomboy, Dieselboy and Skrillex – the list goes on.

This year has been proven successful for the fresh talent. His release “Aftershock” topped Beatport’s electro house chart and his “Project No-Autotune” dominated the Beatport drum and bass charts and stayed at the #1 spot for weeks straight. Throughout the year, he’s released collaborations with Borgore, James Egbert and Carnage with plenty more on the horizon. We’ll always be there when Schoolboy takes over the bass tent at Club Cirque 2013. Tickets are now on sale, so grab yours today!

AWOL Sun Weekend Happy Hour with Arty

Welcome weekend! We missed you so! Bring on the sun and the brief bit of clarity before Monday comes back once again (with the ill behavior). Though your vacation with AWOL Sun in Cabo San Lucas is what you’re really looking forward to, you need to relax in the real world.

For this edition of AWOL Sun’s Happy Hour, we’ll be pairing a “Russian” with a Russian. So sit back and relax. Forget the stress of day-to-day life with a beverage and some great music – because sometimes, that’s really all you need.

Oh, and don’t forget – AWOL Sun sold out well over a month in advance last year, so be sure to reserve your four-night experience soon!

Arty – Together We Are Episode 55

Every Saturday on Sirius XM’s Electric Area channel, Arty hosts his hour-long Together We Are radio show. The genres usually fluctuate and on this episode, it’s no different. Starting off a little dub with Andrew Bayer’s “Detuned,” the mix has the perfect balance of soft melodic strings and edgy, glitchy effects, like seen in Arston’s remix of Arty‘s “Grand Finale.” Later on in the mix, the Russian talent gets a little deep with Beckwith’s “Back to Love” and Eli & Fur’s “You’re So High.” Then the episode ends on a 90’s tribal house feel.

We love the range of this particular episode of Together We Are. It has a little something for everybody which is perfect for long car rides with friends! We’re thrilled to get the opportunity to go on vacation with this talent October 10-13th. Time is running out, book your room today to start planning your vacation.

ATB – Live at ASOT 600 Miami

A State of Trance is easily one of dance music’s most notable brands thanks to a world-renowned podcast and a series of spin-off parties around the globe. For the 600th celebration this year, ASOT took over a stage at Ultra Music Festival. Raking in over 20 years as one of trance’s biggest heavyweights, it comes as no surprise that Something Wicked talent ATB was chosen to play the event.

Featuring some exclusive mash-ups and some old favorites, ATB’s ASOT set reminds you why he’s been at the top of the trance game since 1998.

heRobust – Akomplice Mix

heRobust is definitely one of the artists making the biggest moves in the industry right now. He’s been making uniquely detailed releases while touring with the likes of Big Gigantic and Gramatik. Teaming up with the Akomplice clothing brand, whose philosophy is “Evolution Through Innovation,” heRobust has put out this mix that is a perfect blend of his productions and other sounds that exude that heRobust vibe.

Starting out with the theater classic “If I Were A Rich Man” from Fiddler On The Roof, the mix flows from some bass-led trap tracks into a more melodic vibe, and then weaves in and out of dubstep and moombahton. We’re in for an awesome ride with heRobust when he performs at Something Wicked on October 26th. Have you bought your tickets yet?

Shogun – White Room Sessions 016 (Live at Beta Nightclub)

Shogun‘s White Room Sessions features today’s hottest progressive trance music every second and fourth Friday of the month. Recorded live from Beta Nightclub, recently voted the #1 club in North America, Shogun showed no mercy on his enthused audience for this podcast’s sixteenth episode. Not even nine minutes into the set, Shogun drops Tiësto’s classic anthem “Adagio For Strings” instantly setting the tone for the rest of the performance.

We love the classic trance nod in this set. You might feel a sense of nostalgia as well as you strum through the hour-long mix. The sounds of the audience’s excitement is just the cherry on top to this pounding mix.

Something Wicked Artist Profile: heRobust

artist herobustAlthough the name heRobust has just recently popped on our radar, Hayden Kramer has been producing for over a decade, “I’ve been producing music since I was maybe 15 or so. I started out making dirty south rap instrumentals and some classic hip hop tunes. As soon as I was exposed to electronic music, like Prefuse73 and Squarepusher, my music changed immediately. Things got weird in a pretty great way.” Hailing from Atlanta, Hayden has been infusing that southern hip-hop style through the many avenues of bass music.

His 2011 debut EP Albumin is a galactic glitch-hop masterpiece, filled with 8-bit bleeps and funky synths riding on top of heavy bass lines. “I released my debut EP online, and I started reaching fans all over the world. But thats only half of it. You think Atlanta radio plays L.A. beat cats? Nope. It’s the internet that exposes me to everybody’s work and keeps me inspired.” The following year, Hayden released a relentless stream of music. His double album Late Night/Morning After, the self-released Rob and Hood EP, “Screw Loose,” and lest we forget his seemingly countless free remixes.

Hayden’s latest adventure is a collaborative EP with friends Two Fresh. “It was great working with Two Fresh on this EP. We’ve been mutual fans and friends for a long time and they were some of my earliest supporters. The three of us grew up in the southeast on dirty south vibes and we all have an affinity for really creative sounds. I love this EP, it’s really a reflection of all of us.” Released on the revered imprint SMOG Records, as soon as Throw That was released, it almost immediately charted on Beatport and iTunes. The 5-track release is proof of a great pairing, showing a wide range and versatility, these two acts have a unique brand of hip-hop influenced dance music. The extended player successfully blends the tone of rap and hip hop with the intensity and danceability of dance music.

We love the refreshingly dynamic sound heRobust brings to everything he releases. His love of the “galactic” and being a self-proclaimed “synth nerd” emotes for a one-of-a-kind busting good time. Get ready to get weird when heRobust makes his way to Something Wicked 2013. Grab your tickets today before it’s too late!

Sound Wave Block Party Artist Profile: Brazzabelle

artist brazzabelleSound Wave Block Party talent Brazzabelle, known to her family as Brittney Bowles, has always been interested in a variety of musical genres. Listening to bands like 311 and The Offspring, she would eventually discover dance music in her teens, “When I was 14, I started getting into dance music but none of my peers were really into it except for the four ravers I had at my high school whom wore candy jewelry and huge parachute pants.” Though she enjoyed listening to music, her love of learning how to play/make it came softly, “My parents always forced me to be involved in music and sports activities. I went to piano lessons at this woman’s house that had 15 cats. I hated it. I felt piano was kind of a dorky instrument at the time and after two years of lessons my mom finally let me quit but said, ‘You’ll thank me someday for making you take these lessons.’ She was right. After that I had a bass guitar for four months, traded it in for classical guitar lessons, which I eventually quit as well. Even though I never really got dialed into it, these things all lead to the basic understanding of composition, which I find to be a real help today.”

Brazzabelle started DJing and producing in 2010 and by 2011, she already had debut release “Break Your Body” under her belt. Her success since has been somewhat of a ripple affect as she has earned residencies with several of the West Coast’s most prestigious nightclubs and has been named one of 944 Magazine‘s “Leading Woman in Nightlife. Playing alongside names like Calvin Harris and Laidback Luke, Brazzabelle has made quite an impression among some heavyweights in dance music. Martin Solveig said at a show, “Brazzabelle opened for me tonight, but in two years I’ll be opening for her.”

Following the success of “Break Your Body,” Brazzabelle has released a steady stream of mixtapes, two EP’s, including the single “Drop The Beat” featuring Zashanel and remixed Gentlemen Hall’s hit track “Take Me Under.” Recently grabbing some studio time with gLAdaitor, the two released a free download of their rework of TLC’s classic track, “No Scrubs.”

Still honing in on what her true sound is, we’re excited to see what the future holds for this rising new talent. To quote her, “It will always be unique to Brazzabelle.” Come break ya body with Brazzabelle when she performs at Sound Wave Block Party 2013. Tickets are available, so grab yours before it’s too late.

Sound Wave Music Festival Artist Profile: Porter Robinson

artist porter robinsonThe average 21 year old’s life is usually filled with exams, a crappy job and possibly, some uncertainty of what they want to do with their life. But then again, Sound Wave talent Porter Robinson isn’t the average 21 year old. Developing an interest in music since he was 12, Porter spent his formative years working on creating beats, song writing and combining a variety of genres into his own sound to simply appease his interest in the sound of electronic music. But his interest in dance music comes from an odd inspiration, “When I was 12 my brother brought home a copy of the video game Dance Dance Revolution. The score was composed of Japanese Electronic tracks, and at that age I thought it was super dope. So my parents bought me a mini keyboard and that didn’t really allow me to do much. So over the next six years I learned how to make music on the computer. I got my first record contract when I was 15 and since then the genre has been so rapidly developing and I’ve just molded myself into it.”

Somewhere between the chaos of figuring out what colleges he might want to attend and then start applying to them, the North Carolina native released “Say My Name” and suddenly had the freedom to explore his options, “When ‘Say my Name’ was #1 on Beatport’s electro house charts for several consecutive weeks, I started to dream a bit bigger.”

It would seem that those dreams would get bigger almost right after his very first EP, Spitfire which was quickly signed by Skrillex as the first release on his then new OWSLA imprint. When the EP was actually released, it crashed Beatport’s servers as it headed straight towards the #1 position in the charts where it remained for weeks. From that point, Porter’s career has since picked up speed and shows no signs of slowing down. The years following Spitfire, Porter scored supporting slots on tours with Skrillex and Tiësto‘s infamous College Invasion tour.

The year 2012 would see Porter’s transformation grow into a headline act capable of closing out the night at any event. His hit single “Language” premiered on BBC Radio 1 during Porter’s special live Essential Mix broadcast in January of that year. The song as you know went on to worldwide success, securing #1 on Beatport and a number of Top 10 chart positions around the world. In the wake of the aftermath, the track has sold over 250,000 copies, cementing Porter’s position as one of dance music’s heavyweights.

The year 2013 started off well for Porter with the release of his collaboration with Mat Zo on their hit song “Easy.” This song also quickly reached #1 on both Beatport and HypeMachine, while gaining plays on radio and charts globally.

Now, Porter is getting ready for his first full-length artist album, continuing to draw from elements and influences across a wide range. Although he’s spent his former years making and DJing music that’s “perfect for the dancefloor,” Porter’s debut long player will be a slight detour from that, creating an experience in sound that dabbles in the club and the headphones.

We’re excited to see how this 21 year old molds his sound for the anticipated debut. Porter Robinson has unmistakably become one of the most exciting talents to be plucked from an early age. The sky is the limit for this fresh talent both on and off the decks. Join us when he takes the stage for Sound Wave Block Party 2013 on September 21st. Tickets are still available, so grab yours today!
