Sunset Music Festival Artist Spotlight: Alvin Risk

At Sunset Music Festival, we pride ourselves in having a lineup that is filled with both seasoned artists and buzzworthy newcomers. And there is one particular newcomer who seems to be making all of the right moves for his budding music career–dare we say, all the right risks? Thankfully, Alvin Risk’s dynamic live performances more than make up for our corny puns and you can see up close and personal, Saturday, May 25th. Hurry and grab those tickets!

Even though Alvin Risk, born Marcio Alvarado, was relatively unknown two years ago, that is certainly not the case today for the Washington D.C. native. His name started gaining some traction when he teamed up with fellow D.C. native, moombahton pioneer Tittsworth, to drop the massive Two Strokes Raw EP in 2011. After releasing his debut solo EP “Infinity” in 2012, Alvin scored a spot on OWSLA’s US and Canada tour, gaining more support from industry artists and fans alike. He even tagged along with Kaskade that same year, opening for “America’s Best DJ” on his “Freaks of Nature” tour.

Now signed to the OWSLA imprint, Alvin’s sound is known for its signature blend of dubstep, electro, moombahton and house. With a knack for creating killer, hard-hitting remixes, Alvin has reworked the music of Kaskade, Kill The Noise, Matt & Kim, and other Sunset talent, Steve Aoki, just to name a few. And although 2013 is not even at it’s halfway mark yet, there is no telling what Alvin Risk has up his argyle sleeve for the rest of the year. Still reveling in the buzz surroundding newest releases “Skyclad” and “Empty Hearted,” a collaboration with Designer Drugs, we’re sure you’ll hear these tunes when Alvin Risk takes the stage at Sunset Music Festival in less than two weeks. Presenting the Sunset Music Festival Bass Stage Artist Schedule!

Last week, we announced our stage Isis at Sunset Music Festival that is completely devoted to trance. This week, we are excited to announce our stage that will be devoted to all things bass – a stage called, Set.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Set, coincidentally the sibling to Isis, was the god of darkness and chaos. He was also depicted as the protector of the sun god Ra. While darkness and chaos aren’t the terms we would normally associate with Sunset Music Festival, the music of our bass-heavy acts has been known to make the dance floor a little chaotic.

You can get your fix of a little chaos at Set and a little magic at Isis buy buying your tickets to Sunset Music Festival now! We’ll see you at Raymond James Stadium in just 11 days.

Sunset Music Festival Artist Spotlight: Shogun

Sunset Music Festival is right around the corner. And with the new world-class lineup additions on the devoted trance stage Isis, there are so many reasons to join us May 25th. What are you waiting for? Buy your tickets now! One of those new additions is internationally known producer, Shogun.

Naming himself after the Japanese word for warrior, Shogun’s (Andrew Chen) love for electronic music came softly. Although the American-born, Taiwanese artist was familiar with the certain elements of the genre from listening to bands like Nine Inch Nails and Filter, it wasn’t until 2002, after hearing Armin Van Buuren’s “Communication,” that Shogun submersed himself in trance music and began playing at local clubs. He started making a name for himself during his two year residency at the Ministry of Sound in Taiwan warming up for DJs like Tiësto and Paul Oakenfold. After his time in Taipei, he returned stateside to study audio engineering in Hollywood.

Often spending 12 hours in the studio, Shogun produced around 200 tracks in three years. His first single was signed by S107, sub-label to Armin van Buuren’s Armada, making him the first Asian-American to be signed to the prestigious imprint. His songs continued to gain attention being supported by the likes of Above & Beyond and fellow Sunsetters Ferry Corsten, and Markus Schulz. And it wouldn’t take long before “Imprisoned,” “Save Me,” “Run To My Rescue,” and “Skyfire” would become anthems and cement Shogun’s name in the catalogue of other heavyweights. More recently, originals “UFO,” “Amplify,” “Lotus” and remix of BT, Arty and Nadia Ali’s “Must Be The Love” have all smashed the charts and been championed sets by some of the world’s top trance DJs. Buy your passes and help us welcome dance music warrior, Shogun to Sunset Music Festival!
