Magnetic Music Festival: Tommie Sunshine and Zeds Dead Sound Clash!

Though one of our Magnetic Music Festival artists is known for remixes of popular rock songs, and the other, for their bassmentality, the sound clash for Tommie Sunshie and Zeds Dead poses as a very interesting one. Although the total number of years active in the music industry between the two is quite varied, both acts have used their prowess to educate and/or benefit the the general public on behalf of the dance music scene.

Tommie Sunshine

Tommie Sunshine has always been ahed of the curve. Born Thomas Lorello, Sunshine has been the go-to source for everything dance music related and DJed everywhere from dirty dive bars to the Guggenheim Museum. He is a producer, sought after remixer, DJ and songwriter and he has been deeply rooted in the dance music industry for over 20 years.

Born in the birthplace of house music, Chicago, the now Brooklyn resident is known for a lot of things, but perhaps he is best known for his remixes of popular rock or pop songs for the likes Fall Out Boy, Kelis, Shiny Toy Guns, Yoko Ono, and Katy Perry. He is also known for his long-standing history with the rave scene in the Midwest, which in turn has helped him become a vital asset for anyone who’s wanted to know more about the underground dance music culture. Sunshine has made an appearance on Peter Jennings Reporting on ABC, two separate BBC documentaries on House Music, and even makes a cameo on the rave DVD release, “Rise,” a documentary about our very own Disco Donnie.

Today, you can read up on the state of dance music culture via Tommie’s column on the Huffington Post, or get down to his work alongside The Disco Fries and the outfit he’s in with Bart B More and RipTidE under the moniker Horsepower. Or, you can grab your tickets and see Tommie Sunshine at the Magnetic Music Festival!

Zeds Dead

“Zed’s dead baby. Zed’s dead” Actually, Zed is alive and well thanks to DC and Hooks, the two men behind Canadian outfit Zeds Dead. Known for their crazily catchy bass-influenced tunes, the two originally began making beats that were heavily hip-hop influenced. Forming the summer of 2009 the boys’ first showcased their tracks at their debut performance at The Social and about a year later, were booked weekly for a gig called “Bassmentality.”

The two have come a long way considering they just kicked off their world tour last month and have an impending performance in June in Afghanistan alongside Kid Rock and Garth Brooks, representing for dance music and performing for the troops. We can’t wait to get ratchet with Zeds Dead as they take the stage at this year’s Magnetic Music Festival. General admission and VIP tickets are now available, buy your tickets now!

Disco Donnie Presents joins Dirtyphonics for the Irreverence Tour!

The Dirtyphonics sound is a difficult one to try and shove into one category, but it is an easy one to identify. Collectively, the group states, “We don’t follow rules, we create them.” Unlike a lot of modern dubstep being created today, members Charly, Thomas, Julien, and Pitchin provide an excellent balance of bass music, drum n’ bass, dubstep, and electro with grimy energy.

The French quartet cite Metallica and Korn as influences to their sound as quickly as they do Daft Punk and Pendulum. Though the boys come from a predominantly “rock ‘n’ roll” background, with most of them having played in metal bands, they have never been ones to follow any rules or guidelines in regards to making music. Charly states, “Our sound was always meant to be powerful, high-impact, and precise. From the day we’ve started, we’ve challenged ourselves to create something new – we love to push boundaries.”

You will definitely have the chance to have your boundaries pushed, as Disco Donnie Presents is excited to announce they are bringing the outfit to a city near you.

In Memory: Scott Hardkiss, An American Electronic Dance Music Innovator

“Scott was an extremely multi-talented artist, and above all, a great person. His mark on DJ culture is undeniable and we’re going to miss him very much.”
-Donnie Estopinal

Donnie and the Disco Donnie Presents team are deeply saddened by the loss of Scott Hardkiss, a true originator of American electronic dance music.

From underground events in forests, on the beach, or under the desert sky, Scott made an indelible mark on music and was one third of the beloved ’90s SF rave trio Hardkiss, along with Gavin and Robbie.

Together, they helped define the San Francisco rave sound—a mix of house, techno, breaks, and of course, plenty of psychedelica.

Scott’s contribution to DJ culture will surely be mourned, but it is his heart and spirit that will never fade.

From all of us at the Disco Donnie Presents team, may you rest in peace Scott.

Presenting The Black Magic Mystical Wonder Tour!

Known for his productions under the monikers Ewun and more popularly, Kill The Noise, Jake Stanczak is a drum and bass, dubstep, electro and house music DJ and producer from Rochester, New York. With a keen ear for sound quality and engineering, Stanczak’s professional production hit the ground running after his father bought him a copy of the software program, Reason 1.0 back in 2000. Since then, he has since gone on to become one of the most prolific, avant-garde producers of our generation, working with many artists including Spor, Evol Intent, Skrillex, Dillon Francis, Datsik and Dieselboy. Amazingly, Stanczack’s work as Kill The Noise garnered so much recognition and support from fans before even having the chance to debut an official solo release. That would soon change in 2010 though as his first EP Roots came out, coincidentally, as the first release for Slow Roast Records, an imprint he co-owns with five time DMC world-champion, DJ Craze.

Continuing on in 2013, Kill The Noise has just announced his first-ever headlining tour, the Black Magic Mystical Wonder Tour with Style of Eye and Brillz providing the primary support, and 12th Planet and Codes will provide support for select dates. We have always marveled at how his productions and performances flawlessly blend different genres, styles and tempos, which is why Disco Donnie Presents is glad to bring a lot of noise to a city near you!
