Los Angeles native 12th Planet has already given us something to look forward to in 2014. Invading 38 cities across North America in just 45 days, the Smog City Tour is gearing to be one of the most talked about events of the year.

Having first been introduced to the electronic music scene in high school, 12th Planet is deeply rooted within the community. Often called the American dubstep king, he is credited for bringing the popular genre statewide. Now head of Smog Records, one of the leading dubstep labels in North America, 12th Planet continues to engage audiences around the globe with bass heavy jams with the sounds of the West coast. Last October, the label created their first compilation in Smog City. This November however, brought volume two of Smog City and featured original productions from almost all the producers signed with the imprint. And how do you celebrate a new release? With a tour of course.

Accompanying 12th Planet on his cross-country trek are talents Protohype, Antiserum, DLX, Flinch, HeRobust, SON OF KICK, SPL, Starkey, Steady, and Two Fresh who will all be rotating throughout the dates. In celebration of his 36th birthday, Steve Aoki has pledged to match up to $36,000 in donations to the non-profit organization Music for Relief to benefit the victims of Typhoon Haiyan Relief. Why $36,000? $1,000 for each year he’s been alive. 
Those who want to help can start their own fundraising page on Crowdrise. The person who raises the most for the relief efforts by December 20th will win an all-expense paid trip to see Steve on New Year’s Eve for his performance in Cancun, México. The promoter for the show, Alive Entertainment, is also donating an additional $10,000 to the cause. Alive Entertainment is a leading electronic dance music promoter in Mexico and also Disco Donnie Presents partner in the region. That means that with your help, up to $82,000 (Steve’s match of $72,000 + $10,000) will go to the Philippines to provide urgent medical treatment, medicine, and supplies to the survivors of the typhoon.

Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest storm to make landfall in recorded history. The Philippines have been struck with widespread flooding and destruction and more than 9.5 million people have been affected in the nine regions across the country. Anyone can donate to the cause and no donation is too small. Every dollar will be matched by Steve and the funds will help International Medical Corps provide life-saving medical treatment on the ground with an emphasis on water, sanitation and disease prevention efforts.

Growing up in a family full of artists and musicians sparked Mat Zo‘s love for music at an early age. With early productions dating back to 2006, the innovative British DJ and Producer has been making waves in dance music for quite some time now. Starting out in the mid-2000s, Australian sisters Mim and Liv Nervo have made a name for themselves by writing smash-hit singles for artists like Ke$ha and Kylie Minogue, remixing for likes of Katy Perry and Thirty Seconds to Mars, and even teaming up with David Guetta to help write the Grammy-winning track “When Love Takes Over.” Using that experience as a catapult, the duo began releasing music under their own name, with some heavyweight producers like Afrojack and Steve Aoki while simultaneously touring across North America on the Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj Femme Fatale tour.

These sheilas are an unstoppable force and when they aren’t spinning at clubs, parties, and festivals all around the world, they are busy behind the scenes creating beautiful melodies with poignant lyrics.
