Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Boys Noize

artist boys noizeBoys Noize is one of the few artists who can say that they have been making electronic music and working as a DJ for over half of his life. Quickly establishing himself as an amazing talent behind the decks, his sets have become a staple to festivals around the globe not only for their technical prowess but for their showmanship as well. It’s no wonder Rolling Stone voted this Ultimate Music Experience artist amongst the Top 10 “DJs Who Rule The Earth.”

Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, Alexander Ridha has been finessing his skills on the decks from an early age, “My first DJ gig was in a proper house club in Hamburg when I was 16, supporting a local hero at the time, Boris Dlugosch. I was playing stuff by Mateo & Matos or Theo Parrish, a lot of Guidance Records releases, a couple of Masters At Work tunes. The first French stuff started to hit hard as well around ’97 and ’98 and from then I got more and more into electro labels like Gigolo Records.” Gaining traction on the DJ circuit, Ridha opened for acts like Felix da Housecat and DJ Hell, the latter of which released some of the earliest Boys Noize singles like The Bomb/Boy Neu EP in 2004.

The birth of social networks like MySpace proved to be very beneficial for the young talent, “I was very lucky, I have to say, because my music was only released on vinyl until then and it was the first time that people everywhere could listen to my music easily. I had a great deal of output at that time — a lot of 12″s and remixes — and it was so lucky that regular people outside of the DJ world were able to listen to my music.” Though his early productions were on respected labels like Kitsuné Music and Turbo Recordings, in order to retain full artistic freedom, Ridha established his imprint Boysnoize Records in 2005. “I don’t compromise when it comes to music,” he says, “I do what I think is cool and what I like and not what the market wants or people may expect. Maintaining artistic freedom has always been the most important thing to me — for my own music and for anyone on my label.”

Outside of his work as a label boss and DJ, Ridha has become a master in the studio. As a recording artist and producer, the Boys Noize sound is unmistakable. Amassing three albums, 2007’s Oi Oi Oi , 2009’s Power and 2012´s Out Of The Black, and countless singles and EPs, his work as a remixer is equally as impressive, making edits for everyone from Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Feist, David Lynch, Santigold, and Scissor Sisters. Lest we forget his collaborations with heavyweights like Snoop Dogg, Erol Alkan, Mr. Oizo, and more recently, with Skrillex under the moniker of Dog Blood.

Now that the dust is starting to settle from his massive Go Hard EP released in summer 2013, you can find Boys Noize making audiences go hard all across the globe. Catch his critically-acclaimed set when Boys Noize makes his way to South Padre Island, Texas for Ultimate Music Festival on March 13-15, 2014. Tickets are now available, buy yours today!

Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Brazzabelle

artist brazzabelleIn a very male-dominated industry, Brazzabelle is one woman in dance music making a name for herself all across the globe. Rocking hard with the big boys, both in DJing and production, this Ultimate Music Experience talent is leading the pack of female upstarts.

Known to her family as Brittney Bowles, the Arizona native has always been interested in a variety of musical genres. Introduced to dance music in her early teen years, she immediately fell in love, “It all started when I was about 13. My parents didn’t let me watch TV so I spent an absurd amount of time on the computer and one of my friends introduced me to a production program call ‘Dance EJ’ which I learned the basics of production.” But even though she loved to produce, finances got in the way, “After that it kind of fizzled out because my allowance didn’t allow for me to buy any equipment so I moved onto more traditional instruments and started to play the guitar and bass because I really wanted to be in a band.”

After graduation, Bowles went to work as a fashion merchandiser. Though she enjoyed her time there, a study abroad program to Europe would change everything, “It wasn’t until I studied abroad in Barcelona and became friends with a few DJ’s who encouraged me to get back into it,” she explains, “they told me what equipment to buy and I went home and practiced my little heart out and eventually started playing gigs.”

Back in the United States, Brazzabelle started DJing at many local gigs in her current home of Los Angeles. And by 2011, she released her debut release “Break Your Body.” The sexy track caught the attention of house music lovers everywhere and her success since has been somewhat of a ripple effect as she has earned residencies with several of the West Coast’s most prestigious nightclubs and has been named one of 944 Magazine‘s “Leading Woman in Nightlife.” Brazzabelle has made quite an impression among some heavyweights in dance music. Martin Solveig once said at a show, “Brazzabelle opened for me tonight, but in two years I’ll be opening for her.”

Following the success of “Break Your Body,” Brazzabelle has released a steady stream of mixtapes, two EP’s, including the single “Drop The Beat” featuring Zashanel and remixed Gentlemen Hall’s hit track “Take Me Under.” Recently grabbing some studio time with gLAdaitor, the two released a free download of their rework of TLC’s classic track, “No Scrubs.”

Still honing in on what her true sound is, we’re excited to see what the future holds for this rising new talent. To quote her, “It will always be unique to Brazzabelle.” Her latest festival edit of the classic anthem “What is Love” is sure to make its way in sets around the globe. Come drop the beat with Brazzabelle when she performs at Ultimate Music Experience on March 13-15th – buy your tickets today!

Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Deorro

artist deorroThe Ultimate Music Experience may start on March 13th, but the fun starts a day early as we head to Clayton’s Beach Resort for the official pre-party. One of the artists performing at the pre-party is one of the most sought after young producer/DJs in the business, Deorro.

Known to his postmaster as Erick Orrosquiesta, California-based Deorro acquired a taste for guitar and drums when he was 14. Initially performing under the moniker of Ton!c, the budding talent started DJing at local gigs and house events. Though he could express his love for music through DJing, that love would turn into a career when he began producing his own music.

Using Soundcloud as his main platform, “Ton!c” began to acquire a rather substantial following. Tracks like “Fire” and “Voodoo” became international hits in the blogosphere and helped to secure some bookings Down U4nder. After selling out two events in Australia, a benchmark in his career was set and soon after, Ton!c became Deorro, “Well, to me the name change is sort of like a fresh start, I do like many releases that I have under Ton!c, but I think its time to take it to the next level – new name, new road. And so far so good.”

With a seemingly endless amount of original productions, Deorro’s dedication has helped transform his outlook of life, “I never imagined it would be like this, traveling all days around the world. The thing that makes me very happy is that I can help my sons and my family. In my childhood, things were not very good but now that I have reach this success I think it’s time to give back to my parents and my people what they gave me. I’ll never stop working!”

“Never stop working” is an understatement. In the past month alone, Deorro released “Goodbye” with Zoofunktion and Adrian Delgado, a remix of Axwell and Sick Individuals in “I AM,” and a collaboration with Tommie Sunshine called “Super Hot Fiyah.” Dubbing his unique style of electro house “Panda Funk,” his label, also sporting the PandaFunk name, aims to showcase his signature sounds and help other upcoming artists hone their own sound.

Currently celebrating the release of his latest single “Unspoiled Perfection” with Adrian Delgado and Madeleine Jayne, you can hear Deorro and his unspoiled perfection when he takes the stage at Clayton’s Beach Resort in South Padre Island, Texas for the official Ultimate Music Experience pre-party on March 12th. Tickets are available online, grab yours today to be a part of the #PandaFam.

Ultimate Music Experience Sound Clash: Paper Diamond, Keys N Krates

Ultimate Music Experience is creeping up on us, and if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, what are you waiting for? Join us for an epic Spring Break vacation on March 12-15th, starting with the official UME Pre-Party with Steve Aoki and then the anticipated three-day event. Buy your tickets today for the best possible price!

For today’s sound clash, we are mashing two of our acts who are honing in on a sound that is completely their own and performing that sound live. Though one is known for his tech-savvy work space and the other for being a “trap band,” we can’t wait to see what Paper Diamond and Keys N Krates have for us when they take the stage at this year’s Ultimate Music Experience.

Paper Diamond

artist paper diamondThere’s a lot of buzz surrounding Ultimate Music Experience talent Paper Diamond. The solo act has created a unique sound within his productions unlike anyone any of his peers.

Before infecting audiences with music rich in bass-driven beats, catchy vocals and melodies, Paper Diamond played bass for the one-of-a-kind outfit, The Pnuma Trio. Since their inception in 2004, the group wowed critics with their calculated fusion of classical, jazz, funk, hip hop, and drum and bass – it’s no wonder Paper Diamond is so versatile.

Paper Diamond’s debut EP Levitate featured tracks that embodied raw energy complete with driving beats and rich tones pinned within atmospheric synthesizers. His output always hits on multiple genres, working off his original glitch hop style and adding some flavor from dubstep, electro pop, funk, moombahton and trap styles like seen on his latest effort, the Paragon EP.

Known for his dynamically interactive live sets, seeing Paper Diamond live is not to be missed. Gearing up for 2014 “Cold Crush” tour, Paper Diamond hinted at what we can expect, “I’m using my iPad on stage to control two computers, one has Ableton to play the music, which then sends a MIDI signal to the second computer, where I can control all of the LEDs and live visuals on stage that will capture the nonstop energy of my set. So basically, I get to represent myself in not just a musical manner, but I get to provide an overall visual experience for my fans as well.”

Bringing the “Cold Crush” tour to Schlitterbahn Waterpark, join us as Paper Diamond performs at Ultimate Music Experience on March 13-15th. Tickets are on sale now and available online.

Keys N Krates

artist keys n kratesYou’d be hard-pressed to find another trio that is creating music like Keys N Krates. Rapidly etching their name in the catalogue of heavyweights, the boys have amassed a large following not only because of their hip hop and bass-heavy sounds, but because they are playing these sounds as a live band.

Formed in Toronto in 2008, the trio sought to bring their blend of live electronic instrumentation to the stage. Though many are quick to label them as the world’s only “trap band,” the boys have learned to embrace the title. “At the end of the day, people are going to call us whatever they want. We are referencing everything from classic house music to Timbaland in our beats, but I think the trap references tap into what the current sound is, and we are okay with that.”

Their first release, though not comprised of original productions, was Live Re-Mixing 101 in 2009 and showcased a series of tracks that journeyed a history of hip hop and dance music that was stripped apart and rebuilt in real time. They followed that compilation with the Blackout EP. Released in 2011, the extended player was filled with tracks adorning fat bass lines, synth chords, live instrumentation, and electro flavor.

Their most recent body of work, the SOLOW EP is out on Dim Mak Records in September 2013. We hope to hear the banging single “Dum Dee Dum” when Keys N Krates perform at Ultimate Music Experience this year. Tickets are still available online.

Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Carnage

artist carnageFrom being handpicked to play some of the biggest festivals in the world, to switching gears and making a name for himself in the big room house circuit, there is no denying the impact Ultimate Music Experience talent Carnage has had on dance music in 2013. And the best part? He’s only getting started.

Born Diamanté Blackmon in Guatemala City, Guatemala, a young Carnage always had music in his life, “I was raised in Guatemala until I was 8, and yeah it was pretty chill and we used to listen to whatever – it was never a ‘no music’ kind of thing, just whatever was playing, ya know?” After moving to rural Maryland, Carnage started producing on Fruity Loops, mostly out of boredom, “Living in the country, there was nothing really to do. I used to rap, so I thought making my own beats would both be cool and pass the time. I started a group with my friend Bruce, who also rapped, and I started hosting his mixtapes. He [pushed] me into sampling music and pulling eclectic points of reference into the music I was making. From here I got into making beats and developing them into proper tracks, and as time passed, the platform for this music became more and more relevant.”

Carnage first came to our attention in 2012 with his remix of Hardwell’s massive single “Spaceman.” Dubbing his sound “festival trap,” the Los Angeles based talent burst onto the scene and things haven’t slowed down since. Even UME veteran Tiësto has dropped some productions from the Chipotle lover. With his outright refusal to be pigeonholed to one genre, Carnage has steered away from his original trap style, If I want to make a rap record I make it; if I want to make a house record I make it. If I want to make some pretty shit I make some pretty shit.”

His latest releases are dripping with that big room “festival-style” sound in genres like deep and electro house, drum and bass and anything else that strikes his fancy. Calling 2013 his most life changing year, Carnage is marching into 2014 with a documentary and an artist album to be released later this year, “Imagine… a fucking Carnage after movie, like my EDC one – not just about one festival [though], but about this last year and what really happens behind the scenes. And all of your favorite people are in it (trust me, everyone’s in it).”

Come dance to the sounds of the #ChipotleGang leader at this year’s Ultimate Music Experience on March 13-15th. Tickets are on sale and moving fast, so grab yours today!

Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Tiësto

artist tiestoYou’d be hard-pressed to find a dance music fan who hasn’t heard of Ultimate Music Experience talent Tiësto. From the early days of his career, all Tiësto said that he wanted to do was, ‘to share his music with others.’ Now 20 years after his first release, and having won nearly every dance music award there is, it’s clear to see that Tiësto has put in the work and dedication to called one of the greatest DJs to be behind a set of turntables.

Born Tijs Verwest, Tiësto knew he had a strong love of music at an early age, “…since I was 5, I think. At home, I’d always listen to music – music has always been important to me and I always enjoyed playing music for other people and see that they have a good time – that’s what it’s all about.” In 1988, now 19, Tijs bought his first turntable and taught himself how to mix, though doing so, proved to be a little difficult, “I only had one tape recorder and one turntable – I couldn’t afford two turntables. So, I had to record everything from the radio, and I had vinyl – it was very hard, there was no pitch control on the turntable either. It was very difficult in the beginning, to pitch without a pitch control. Then, after a couple of years, I had enough money saved to buy a turntable with pitch control, and then the world opened up for me.”

Though known for his feats in the trance genre, Tiësto’s early releases in 1994 were hardcore/gabber-influenced tracks under the aliases Da Joker and DJ Limited, “I started out as a remixer, not as a producer, because in the beginning, I didn’t have a clue how to make my own tracks,” he admits. “And remixing is much easier to do because you [already] have the melody, so you just have to give your own flavor on it.” After being mentored in the studio from artists like Armin Van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold and Ferry Corsten, Tiësto decided it was time to start working on his own productions.

His debut album In My Memory, released in 2001, had five #1 singles in “Dallas 4PM,” “Flight 643,” “Obsession,” “Lethal Industry,” and “Suburban Train.” Skyrocketing in his success, Tiësto became DJ Mag’s #1 DJ for three years following his debut. In 2004, his second album Just Be featured anthem singles “Traffic” and “Adagio For Strings.” That same year saw Tiësto’s global presence explode to new heights as he became the first DJ to perform live at the Olympic Games for the 2004 Opening Ceremony. In fact, Tiësto has been a lot of “firsts.” His remix of Delerium’s “Silence” was the first dance track to be broadcast on daytime radio in North America, he was the first DJ to hold a solo concert in a stadium, and he set the world record for the largest audience every played to by a DJ. There is just no stopping the Dutch veteran, and why would you want to? He continues to knock out hit singles and evolve his sound year later as seen by his more recent albums Elements of Life and Kaleidoscope.

Back in June, Tiësto released the third volume of his revered Club Life series in “Stockholm.” Reaching #16 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, Tiësto says, “I didn’t just want it to be a mix with tracks my fans could find on every other compilation or were just the hottest tracks of the moment. Rather, I wanted this to be heavy on my own productions, remixes and collaborations.”

Holding it down at his imprint Musical Freedom with recent releases “Move to the Rhythm,” “Red Lights,” and a forthcoming remix with twoloud, Tiësto is starting 2014 off right. Join us this March 13-15th to move to the rhythm with one of the greatest DJs of all time at Ultimate Music Experience. Tickets are on sale now, buy your tickets today!

Ultimate Music Experience Artist Profile: Steve Aoki

artist steve aokiWith an artist motto of “Always On Tour,”Steve Aoki is one of the busiest men in the music industry. Producer, DJ, label boss, and entrepreneur, you never know what this Ultimate Music Experience Pre-Party talent is going to do next.

Born in Miami but raised in California, Steve Aoki first started working as a DJ when he was a student at the University of California in Santa Barbara. Performing under the name Kid Millionaire, Steve began hosting concerts anywhere he could – no matter how illegitimate the venue, “… And the legendary house, the 6542 Sabado Tarde house. That’s where the Pickle Patch was founded. It eventually moved around, but we had At The Drive-In, !!!, The Rapture – the Pickle Patch had over 450 bands playing at all the different incarnations. We stayed there for a couple years then we moved into a frat house. We didn’t become a frat but we brought 16 kids in there, we built out a space and did shows there. Then we moved to the Biko House and we did shows there. We made the garage into a place where we could have shows.”

After graduating, and in his early 20s, Steve created the now world-famous label Dim Mak Records in 1996. The first releases of the then burgeoning imprint were far from electronic, “My roots are in hardcore and punk. Before dance music I was writing for punk bands and screaming punk songs.” With Dim Mak still in its starting phase, Steve teamed up with Blake Miller of the band Moving Units to start producing remixes under the alias Weird Science. Weird Science made their debut in 1997 with the Please Wait/Submarine EP released on Think Recordings. Remixing for artists like Bloc Party, Peaches, and Rooney, the outfit continued their efforts and coincidentally landed on Pillowface And His Airplane Chronicles, Steve’s debut mix album.

Released in 2008, Pillowface And His Airplane Chronicles was an underground success, debuting at #15 on the Billboard Electronic Chart and also reaching #8 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart. After his “debut,” Steve’s success took on a snowball effect. Tracks like “I’m In The House,” “Warp 1.9,” “Turbulence,” and “No Beef” only fueled to the Aoki fire that was about to ensue. Steve’s output was unlike anything any artists were doing at the time, “10 years ago, I was screaming to kids at hardcore shows and a little after that, I started to DJ. When you DJ and play others’ records, you create a story for your audience and that’s part of your job and the art of being a DJ. When I produced tunes, I brought in that aggressive nature from my earlier punk years along with showmanship. There’s a difference between producing an actual song, and making a club edit. It’s the song that I get more into when it plays live. When I play shows, its second nature to scream in the crowd and let off all that energy.”

As as a remixer, Steve Aoki’s catalogue spans from names like the Jackson 5 and Lenny Kravitz, to Kanye West, Eminem and Snoop Dogg. And with his aptitude for collaborations, Steve has appeared on releases with artists like Kid Cudi, will.i.am, Afrojack, and Armand Van Helden, just to name a few.

Known for his caking, rafting, and crowd surfing skills, 2014 will see something new on Steve’s impending tour, “I’ve been doing the cakes and I’ve been doing the rafts, and I’m still doing that at my shows because that’s what people want and it’s fun and engaging. I’m bringing out this new element to the show called neon future technology, which is kind of going along with the theme that my next album is all about. It involves cryo, it involves LED and stuff that I attach onto like robotic appendages and robots on the stage.”

Robots and LEDs? March 12th can’t get here soon enough! Buy your tickets to the official Ultimate Music Experience Pre-Party at Clayton’s Beach Club in South Padre Island, Texas today to see what Steve has up his sleeve this year.

Now that we have that out of the way, we’ve got a few other guidelines and reminders to make sure you have an ultimate experience.

Security and Entry

Everyone will be searched upon entrance to the venue. You will need to empty your pockets and have all items examined. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone.

Bars for 21+

For patrons who are 21 and older, a selection of mixed drinks and cold beer will be served at the bars located throughout the event grounds.

Food

An assorted menu will be available for purchase in the vendor village and at various stations around the venue.
