At the end of every month, the Aussie sisters bring another episode of their popular radio show NERVO Nation to Sirius XM’s BPM channel. The Gift Artist Profile: deadmau5 (unhooked)

Pioneering producer and The Gift headliner deadmau5 (unhooked) has etched his name among dance music’s elite by going beyond the “standard” definitions of production and what to do behind the decks. Always playing his well-crafted edits and originals often with the help of cutting edge computer technology, deadmau5 continues to fill dance floors around the globe after all these years.

Born Joel Thomas Zimmerman in Niagara Falls, Canada, The Gift talent became drawn to music at the age of 15 picking up an affinity for the piano while simultaneously welcoming technology, making chip tunes from old computers. After a few years of being influenced with electronics and hardware, he started working in animation and web design. “I was playing MS Golf and Minesweeper. And getting blown away by the amazing effects that Corel Draw could provide. At the same time, my parents were sending me to piano classes. I went to a school for eight years in Niagara Falls, where I got a lot of classical music pounded into my head.”

In 1999, Zimmerman’s chiptunes finally grabbed the attention to Mötley Crüe drummer, Tommy Lee, which led to a contributing spot on Lee’s rap metal album Methods Of Mayhem. After years of friendship and collaboration they released two electro-house singles, under the name W.T.F.? called “Chicken” and “Redic.” Though Zimmerman made his debut with Tommy Lee, his breakout year was when he entered the music world as a co-producer for the Niagara Falls radio show and released his first album in 2005 with Get Scraped.

Collaborating with Steve Duda under the alias B.S.O.D., deadmau5 earned his first #1 on Beatport with “This is the Hook.” By 2008, deadmau5 had three self-released albums and the breakout success of Random Album Title under his belt. And the hits just kept on coming. deadmau5’s collaboration with Kaskade for tracks “Move for Me” and “I Remember” reached #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay making mau5 the 1st Canadian to have three #1 tracks on that chart after also releasing the classic “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” (later with Rob Swire) on For Lack of a Better Name.

deadmau5 closing out 2013 with a bang with recent single “Suckfest9001” and talks of a mega tour for the future. Treating us to a special Unhooked set at this years The Gift, get ready for the ultimate present as deadmau5 makes his way to Raymond James Stadium on Thursday, December 26th.

The Gift Artist Profile: Adventure Club

artist adventure clubThe Gift duo Adventure Club have been rapidly ascending the dance music ladder since they first got together in 2011. Creating the perfect recipe of dubstep beats joined with melodic synths, it’s clear that “Clubstep” is here to stay.

Hailing from Montréal, the duo consisting of Leighton James and Christian Srigley first met when they were in high school. Later, the two formed a touring hardcore pop-punk band, lugging amps around but later decided to move onto the sounds of bass. “Yeah, I [was] the one who was producing our band,” Christian says, “We had a little studio and yeah, I probably was drunk the first time [I experimented with dubstep]. I had a field day just making dubstep and it was all just for fun — it ended up being a hobby until it started getting more attention than anything else we’d done previously.”

Through a lot of trial and error, the two began to hone in on their sound. The first song to put the duo on the map was their remix of Brand New’s song “Daisy” which increased their following exponentially after it was uploaded to the music aggregator site Hype Machine. Their popularity would only escalate from there. The boys developed a signature style, merging vocals with heavy drops to create their initial sound. Leighton remembers, “We were big into the hardcore scene and our friends showed us this remix album they had and Tech 1 did a remix of ‘Sleep with One Eye Open’ and it blended electronic and hardcore music together. We loved it so we started messing around with those kind of sounds.”

After their initial debut, the boys spent a fair amount of time working in the studio. Releasing a handful of tracks that would eventually catapult them to fame, remixes like “Crave You” or “Youth” by Foxes show off the duos perfected blend of syncopated rhythms, emotional melodies coupled with emotive vocals, and smooth bass aligning each track. Some of their signature sound can also be attributed to the software Cakewalk SONAR that they use to produce their music. Leighton says, “We kind of got tired of the wompy dubstep, and once we saw the melodic dubstep was working and people were being responsive to it, we just went with it.”

Currently, the boys are on a nationwide tour and calling all heroes from every corner of the country. Still buzzing from their earlier releases like “Gold” and of course their latest EP Calling All Heroes, come get your dose of adventure this Thursday, December 26th as Adventure Club makes their way to Tampa for The Gift at the Raymond James Stadium. There’s still time to buy your tickets online!

Get Unhooked with deadmau5 at The Gift

We are so close to dancing in a winter wonderland as Tampa’s inaugural spectacle event The Gift takes over the Raymond James Stadium on Thursday, December 26th. Disco Donnie Presents and Sunset Events are excited to have the pioneering deadmau5 headline the holiday event and perform his unhooked set. What’s an unhooked set? We’re glad you asked.

Though critically-acclaimed, deadmau5‘s unhooked sets are a rare occasion. While most of the unhooked shows are in a small space with fewer than 400 people to fill the space, for Winter Fantasy we’re lucky enough to experience the show with thousands of our closest friends. Armed with a Mac, CDJs, a mixer, and an effects unit, fans will get to see the electronic wizard work his magic behind the scenes as there is no LED cube to obstruct your view. Most sets begin without the iconic mau5head, but if we’re lucky enough, we’ll get a little “head” action later on in the set. Simply put, unhooked is more a DJ set than it is anything else.

So come get intimate with deadmau5 on Thursday, December 26th for The Gift. We’re sure you’ll still get an explosion of energy as he delivers his signature electro laced with big drums beats and even bigger bass lines.

Tickets are still available online so grab yours before it’s too late.

The Gift Weekend Warrior: Nom De Strip

We’re looking forward to Thursday, December 26th when as Tampa’s spectacle event, The Gift featuring deadmau5 (unhooked) makes its debut at the Raymond James Stadium.

Though we won’t be celebrating for another few weeks, that doesn’t mean we’re gonna sit at home and be bored all weekend. As we blaze through the remaining days of December, we’ll be bringing you three mixes every week from an artist on our roster to help get you pumped for the upcoming event.

This week’s weekend warrior is our ever-eclectic talent Nom De Strip. Currently touring with Mat Zo on the Damage Control World tour, Nom De Strip is known for his vivacious house sets ranging in the grittiest of electro to the trippiest of techno and everything in between. These three sets will give you an idea of the craziness Nom brings to his sets.

Tickets are flying off the shelves so be sure to grab yours before it’s too late.

BBC Radio One: Diplo and Friends Mix

This past September 15th, Chris Lake’s imprint Rising Music took over the Diplo and Friends show with a special group of mixes. Chris Lake and TJR provided their talents and Nom De Strip knocked out one hour-long mix for the episode. We love that Nom put his stamp on every track on this playlist. Our guess is that his performance at The Gift will be the same.

Live at Control for Control Radio Episode 036

Control Radio is hosted and produced each week on Evolution and iHeartRadio by residents DJ Sam Hiller and Control founder Ryan Jasoe. A few weeks ago, Nom De Strip performed at the popular Los Angeles club Control. Thankfully, the record button was on because this particular mix is on fire. We nearly lost is when the mashup of Nom’s “Techno Saturday” and Breach’s “Jack” came on.

February 2012 Studio Mix

This studio mix features some of Nom De Strip’s favorite producers in the year 2012. From TJR’s popular track “Funky Vodka” to a banging edit of Tommy Trash’s “Monkey See Monkey Do,” this mix hits all the right notes.

The Gift Drop: Adventure Club raises $7,000 for cancer awareness; Nom De Strip's collaboration 'Minerals' is out now

The month of December is finally upon us, which means that the inaugural The Gift featuring deadmau5 (unhooked) will take over Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium in just a few weeks on Thursday, December 26th. Since there is some time remaining before the gates open to the spectacle event, we love to stay up-to-date with our talented acts.

For today’s Gift Drop, we’ve got a duo giving cancer a swift kick in the butt, and another talent releasing some killer tunes.

Tickets for The Gift are still available online so grab your tickets today!

Adventure Club donates $7,000 to F*ck Cancer

artist adventure clubOver the summer, Québecois superheroes Adventure Club teamed up with dance music clothing retailer Electric Family to release a series of custom Adventure Club wristbands. These aren’t just your run-in-the-mill fan wristbands though. The threaded red and blue design is one way Cristian and Leighton are giving fans the chance to be superheroes in real life. Every dollar made from the sale of the product will directly benefit Canadian-based charity F*ck Cancer. Their purpose, though it could inferred to by the title, is to educate youth and adults about fighting cancer.

To date, with the aid of their fans, Adventure Club has been able to raise over $7,000 in bracelet sales for the organization. Due to popular demand, the bands were temporarily sold out, but not anymore. You can make your way over to Electric Family and grab your Adventure Club wristband today. Be sure to wear yours at The Gift on Thursday, December 26th!

Nom De Strip’s and Congrock’s ‘Minerals’ out now on Ultra Records

artist nom de stripThe long-awaited collaboration of Nom de Strip and Congorock is finally here. The fresh new release, out on Ultra Records, is titled “Minerals” and WARNING: It’s killer. The groovy tribal drum intro will give you the urge to start dancing immediately. The main riff is sinister and somewhat ominous sounding, but in the awesomest, grittiest and dirtiest of ways. And we can’t talk about this song without mentioning the roaring kick drum. Break out the sub woofers for this one. The four-to-the-floor kick just keeps pounding, driving the energy level of this track through the roof.

The song has also been featured in the soundtrack of the recently released EA Sports game Need for Speed Rivals. We think its awesome that you can have a street-racing rivalry between cops and racers to the tune of some banging electro house tracks. You can go out and grab the game, but we’re pretty sure the song would sound better in person. Come hear and dance to “Minerals” at The Gift on Thursday, December 26th.
