Dance Responsibly at Winter Fantasy

Dance Responsibly at Winter Fantasy

The 2013 edition of Hidalgo’s Winter Fantasy is right around the corner and we are about to have the time of our lives! But before we get down to the sounds of deadmau5 (unhooked) closing out our main stage, we’ve got some helpful tips and information to make sure you and your friends stay safe and responsible at this year’s holiday event.

Stay Hydrated

There will be a lot of dancing come Monday, December 30th and sometimes people will get sick from overheating and dehydration. We encourage you to drink lots of water, but remember drinking too much water can be dangerous!

Accidents surrounding music events have been associated with low levels of electrolytes that are lost along with water when one becomes dehydrated. Such low levels of electrolytes, especially salt, can lead to brain swelling, seizures, heart problems and even death.

So be sure to alternate between water and sports drinks that will naturally be provided for you. Gatorade will be made available upon request at information and medical booths located throughout the festival grounds.

Festival and Holiday Costumes Encouraged

We will have world renowned acts pumping great music all night, so be sure to wear something comfortable, lightweight and easy to dance in. Dark colors absorb heat rays, so avoid wearing all dark clothes. You should also steer away from heavy fabrics and faux furs, always remembering that comfortable tennis shoes are the best option on the dance floor.

Find Your Buddy

Winter Fantasy is set to draw in thousands of amazing people from the Rio Grande Valley area so it could be really easy to get separated from your group. Always keep track of where your friends are by setting up meeting points and sticking together.

Look out for one another. If you and your friends have been sweating, grab some water for the group to replenish nutrients lost – you can’t live off dancing alone. We will have personnel stationed around the festival, so be sure to ask for help if you or one of your friends needs it.

Is There a Doctor in the House?

Medical personnel will not only be readily accessible but ready to assist you at any time in the medical tent. From Band-Aids to aspirin, assistance is available to you should you need anything at all. Gatorade will also be made available upon request.

If you are feeling unwell, seek medical attention immediately. Your health and safety is more important than waiting for the drop.

There are plenty of ways to stay safe at Winter Fantasy this year, so don’t miss out on your chance to go. Tickets are still available, buy your tickets today!

The Gift Artist Profile: Nom De Strip

artist nom de stripThe Gift talent Nom De Strip has continued to be a magnet for large audiences throughout the years with his many music accomplishments and quick wit. Trailblazing through the Nom solo project, he remains a respected artist within the music industry as he continues to evolve his sound.

Born Chris Elliot in Edinburgh, Scotland, the acclaimed producer submerged himself in music at an early age, “I’ve always had a thing for music; I played the guitar and piano for years before I got into dance music thanks to the The Prodigy, Music For The Jilted Generation. I got my first awful belt drive turntables aged 16 and went from there.” His hometown also provided some musical education during his formative years, “Edinburgh had a great nightlife at the time and I had a great circle of friends who all had similar tastes. I got to see all my fav DJs [like] Green Velvet, Jon Carter, and Timo Maas from a young age, which only served to fan the fire of inspiration.”

Armed with ambition to create a career path of his own, Elliot started producing everything from electro, techno, disco, and everything in between until eventually meeting Tod Hodge in 2005. The two released a handful of tracks under duo Stupid Fresh before splitting amicably a few years later. Since the launch of Elliot’s solo project as Nom De Strip in 2009, the talented producer garnered much recognition for his Clouds Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 EPs.

In 2012, Nom De Strip’s success grew after releasing various underground hits under deadmau5’s successful mau5trap imprint. Nom’s remix of Tommy Trash’s “Monkey See Monkey Do” only helped solidify his ranks in the music industry. Not only were music fans infatuated by his unique style, but leading artists such as Tiësto, Wolfgang Gartner and Dirty South began publicly supporting the artist which ultimately led to his next accomplishment.

In 2013, house music veteran Chris Lake jumped at the chance to sign Nom to his Rising Music label. The pairing couldn’t be more ideal as Nom has released hit tracks “Devil’s BBQ” with Nezzo and “Nippleodeon” with Hatiras, “I was influenced by some of the Dutch guys, Bart B More, Laidback Luke, Afrojack, I’ve always been a big fan of Hot Mouth, Hatiras, Chis Lake, and new guys like Harvard Bass were, and still are, rocking my ears off.”

With 2014 just right around the corner, this producer is closing out 2013 with “Minerals,” a collaboration with Congrorock. We’re sure you’ll hear this track when Nom De Strip makes his way to the Raymond James Stadium for The Gift on Thursday, December 26th.

Day After Artist Profile: Billy The Kit

artist billy the kitOften called one of the most promising talents from the Dutch electronic scene, Day After Festival talent Billy The Kit knows how to move an audience with his energetic, diverse, and unbreakable sounds. So it comes as no surprise that the house DJ and producer is performing and selling out some of the largest venues and festivals around Europe.

Native to The Hague, Netherlands, Joost Seilberger was influenced by music early on, “My father played in several bands during the 60s, so music was as important in the family as anything else. [When I was younger], I started experimenting with music, playing instruments like the saxophone and the piano. At the age of 14, I started producing, DJing and buying vinyl.” Mixing all kinds of music with various mediums, his diverse background with music brought him closer to understanding how to express his unique style.

Channeling that style, he started to make a name for himself as a DJ with his own party every Saturday at a small local bar in Leidschemdam. Building on the success of his weekly, in 2008, he first released Parade of Fools EP on Franchise Recordings. After a move to Tilburg to study, he scored a residency at La Paz in Eindhoven where he played alongside artists like Fedde le Grand. Though Seilberger made his debut during his previous years as a DJ, his breakout year was in 2011, when he was signed to the influential EMI Music imprint. His first single “Don’t Be Shy” as Billy The Kit, which immediately scored well in Dutch charts, became the anthem of the Dutch MTV Awards that same year.

Since then, his energetic DJ sets have have garnished quite the reputation, amassing over 250 gigs throughout Europe while still spending countless time in his studio. His catalogue of releases includes three mix albums and several hit songs, among which have resulted in many #1s on the Dutch, Beatport, and iTunes charts. Artistically, Billy the Kit’s evolution is far from over, “Create your own sound, watch, listen, invest, be patient and learn.”

Still letting the dust settle from the track “Loud and Proud” with Blasterjaxx, released on Tiësto’s imprint Musical Freedom, get ready to get loud as Billy The Kit makes his way to Panamà for The Day After Festival.
