Day After Artist Profile: David Solano

artist david solanoWhether he’s cooking up some hit tracks in the studio, or performing in front of thousands, Day After Festival artist David Solano remains a dark force in dance music today. Having had much success being involved with some of the genre’s most respected charts and labels, there’s no denying Solano is taking the club scene by storm.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, Solano has been an avid music lover for quite some time, “Music has always been a part of my life. I was in a band since the age 13 where I played guitar. I always thought I would be either a rock star with my band or a professional soccer player, which was my other passion.” After moving to his current residence of Miami at the age of 15, the metropolis opened up a new passion for the teen – dance music. “When I first got into EDM, trance was the biggest genre. I was following guys like Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, and George Acosta. I was also a huge fan of hardstyle guys like Deepack, all of whom have definitely influenced my style.”

Embracing every aspect of his music discovery, Solano went to the drawing board and began producing. Luckily, his band experience proved to have been a bigger aid than he imagined, “When I was in my band I always liked playing the other instruments as well, like when we took band breaks, I would jump on the drums and go crazy ’til the drummer would tell me to stop because I was fucking up his drum sticks and [I had a] similar scenario with the keyboard and bass. That’s why I got into EDM. When you produce a house track, you basically play every instrument.”

The world started seeing Solano’s name for his remixing efforts in 2010 on tracks like “Acid Trip” and “When The World Began,” the latter of which appeared on many compilations and radio shows like Tiësto’s world-famous Club Life podcast and the Juicy Ibiza series. In a phrase, Solano hit the ground running and his music productions continued to be more popular than the last. Solano continues to rise as one of the most highly-requested up-and-coming artists in the industry which is why it came as no surprise that the World’s largest paint party, Life In Color, named him resident of the renowned event.

Every year has seen one big room hit after the other like his “Brass Knuckles” remix with Leewise, his remix of Robbie Rivera’s “All We Are,” and his original tunes “Striker” and “Kaboom.” Lest we forget his recent collaboration with R3hab for Life In Color’s official anthem “Do It.”

An expert in electro and progressive house anthems, we can’t wait to go kaboom in Figali Plaza when David Solano makes his way to Panamà City for The Day After Festival on January 10-12th. Buy your tickets and secure your spot to the celebration today!

The Gift Artist Profile: GTA

artist gtaThe boys of GTA have been setting the world on fire this past year. Whether their in the studio, or behind the decks, The Gift duo keep audiences entertained with their wide array of big and booming productions, collaborations and remixes. Producers without borders, their arsenal of sounds know no limitations.

For Miami natives Matt van Toth and Julio Mejia, music has always been a part of their lives. “We’ve both always been into music from a very early age,” Matt says, “I got into producing by wanting to record myself playing guitar, since I wasn’t in a band, and I wanted to make my own music. Julio started making beats for friends in high school as a joke.” When Julio hit college, beat making was no longer a joke, but now a passion. Coincidentally, this was around the time the two met, “We met through Facebook. We had a mutual friend, Mauricio, a local DJ around Miami. I was making music, and he was making music, and [Mauricio] linked us up and told us to check each other out. I was doing kinda open-format DJing at the time, and Julio was making beats and stuff.”

Armed with a passion for music and a budding chemistry, the boys went to work immediately, “[We knew collaborating would be a good idea] the first couple of times we met up and made some tracks. Literally, the first song we made got picked up by Afrojack for his label, which didn’t get released because we couldn’t get the sample cleared, but that was literally the first track we made together. We have the same inspirations and the same kind of style. It just worked out, and everything is going good, so why not just keep going with it?”

And keep going they did. Their debut release “It’s Time” was signed to Afrojack’s Wall Recordings making for a rather stellar introduction to the world, “Yeah, it’s unreal! We’ve always been working and have tons of unreleased music waiting for the right moment and opportunities to release. We still send those tracks to big DJs and get support from them! It’s good to finally see everything coming together.” Since their debut, GTA have had releases on Diplo’s Mad Decent, Ladback Luke’s Mixmash, A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Records, Steve Angello’s Size Records and Diplo’s off-shoot project Jeffree’s, but the dynamic duet aren’t slowing down. This year has been met with a string of massive releases with “Yolohton,” “The Crowd,” and their most recent release “Bola” on Calvin Harris’s Fly Eye Records.

One thing we love about GTA is their outright refusal to be pigeonholed within any one category. They’ll experiment with trap music, house, moombahton, funky electro, booty bass, salsa, big room, anything they can put their flavor on. With their popular mixtape series “Death to Genres,” their mission is to get all the booties clapping every time, no matter the genre.

Winding down from their massive European tour alongside Rihanna for her Diamonds World Tour, we welcome GTA to The Gift on Thursday, December 26th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Don’t procrastinate – buy your tickets today!

Day After Artist Profile: Calvin Harris

artist calvin harrisDriven by persistence and an uncontrolled passion for music, singer, songwriter, producer and Day After Festival talent Calvin Harris, continues to wow audiences with his intriguing and surprising sounds. Performing at some of the most high-end nightspots and festivals around the globe, Calvin Harris is hands down, one of the world’s most in-demand DJs.

Known to his postmaster as Adam Richard Wiles, Calvin Harris was born in the southern city of Dumfries, Scotland. He became first drawn to electronic music around 1999 in his teen years as he began to record demos at home. A few years later, after moving to London, Harris recorded his first two songs “Da Bongos” and “Brighter Days” under the moniker Stouffer. Though his follow up track “Let Me Know,” with vocalist Ayah had relative success, Harris decided it was time to go back to the drawing board. He dedicated his time by branding himself and posting solo recordings through on MySpace. And as fate would have it, deeply rooted dance music veteran Tommy Sunshine came across Harris’ beats and released some of his earlier recordings on his Xylophone Jones Recordings imprint before Harris was eventually signed to EMI later on.

Calvin Harris’ debut album I Created Disco, released in 2007, debuted at #8 on the UK Albums Chart and by the following year, it was certified gold. Audiences instantly loved tracks like “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls” for their catchy lyrics and universal melodies – a quality that Harris has come to master, “You need three or four really catchy hooks. It doesn’t matter what they are, whether they’re musical hooks or lyrical hooks. You need some kind of sound in there that someone hasn’t heard before. Or sometimes you can take a sound or an idea that happened 30 years ago that nobody’s really thought about for a while, and you can update it and incorporate it into a modern setting.”

With his career ever on the rise, other industry greats began to take notice. Harris’ talents grabbed the attention of Australian artist Kylie Minogue, Kelis, Ellie Goulding, and his efforts on Rihanna’s “We Found Love” earned him many awards from Billboard, the IDMAs and the coveted Grammy’s. In 2011, his escalating success went into overdrive after releasing “Feel So Close.” “It’s an emotional, almost an emo vocal. I can’t remember the last time guitars were in dance music like that. Also, it’s all real instruments. Nothing’s fake there: it’s real music, real melody and actual emotion. A lot of dance music now, it’s about being in the club and popping bottles over this cheap-sounding synth that people can make so easily and get somebody else to mix. I’m not about that.”

Currently, Calvin Harris is celebrating his collaboration with Alesso on the track “Under Control.” One thing’s for sure, Harris will definitely have Figali Plaza under control as he makes his way to Panamà City, Panamà for The Day After Festival on January 10-12th.
