Something Wicked Artist Profile: Cosmic Gate
If you were going to make a list of the greatest trance acts of all time, Something Wicked duo Cosmic Gate would definitely be near the top. Having remained one of the biggest names in the genre for almost 15 years, the boy’s have never been one’s to rest on their past resumés. As artists, they’ve continued to push the envelope and still wow fans after every show and festival they play at.
Both hailing from Krefeld, Germany, Nic Chagall and Bossi formed the Cosmic Gate outfit in 1999. A year later, the two took the trance world by storm with their mega hits and classic anthems “Exploration of Space” and “Firewire” which graced charts around the globe. The two lament, “Actually, we both been in the scene already before Cosmic Gate for some years already. But with the start of Cosmic Gate, things seemed to be kind of exploding for us. We had first big success in Germany and latest with the Top 10 we reached in the UK with ‘Firewire,’ most other parts of the globe followed.” The super-producers have remained at the forefront of innovative production with six widely-received albums that have included fan favorites like “Body of Conflict,” “Not Enough Time,” “F.A.V.” and “Analog Feel” all of which further showcase Cosmic Gate’s musical prowess.
Cosmic Gate continued to amaze listeners in 2011 when they released their seventh artist album Wake Your Mind. The long player was a colossal success, with tracks like “Be Your Sound” receiving an IDMA nomination for Best Trance Track in 2012. When asked why they named their album Wake Your Mind, Cosmic Gate responded, “We think the album brings together quite different styles of electronic music, and sometimes people get stuck in their own scene, not accepting or listening to music out of this genre. We tried to break these boundaries with the album a bit, create an album for EDM fans in general–even if they like trance, progressive, or even house.”
Cosmic Gate bring that same philosophy with them into every set they play. You never know quite what to expect when these icons take over the decks. What you are guaranteed, is a set filled with energy and emotion by two of the best. Expect a musical journey that will wake your mind to new sounds and new experiences when Cosmic Gate takes the stage for Something Wicked in Houston, TX on Saturday, October 26th! Tickets are still available, so grab them now!
