Day After Artist Profile: Hardwell

artist hardwellThough we remember a time when Day After headliner Hardwell was still fairly unknown name, he is more than considered a seasoned veteran as of late. The producer, DJ and label boss has played for nearly every notable club and festival in the vast corners of the world all before his 25th birthday. It would seem that new heights can only be reached for Hardwell, as he continues his climb to the top of dance music’s cultural landscape, now, as the #1 ranked DJ in the world by DJ Mag’s pivotal list.

Robbert van de Corput hails from Breda, a city in the Netherlands that fellow Dutchman Tiësto also calls home. Hardwell was signed to a major Dutch label at the age of 14. Shortly after being signed, Hardwell had the privilege to spin at all the major clubs across the Netherlands. “It was definitely a big motivation, especially getting a record deal at just 14. I had always been into music since I was 6 so when I started DJing I really loved it because I could finally let people hear the music I wanted to share. So when I signed the record deal at just 14 it was like a dream coming true, I was able to release my tracks to a even bigger audience now. After that my name started to get recognized and my tracks started to get recognized and soon it became easier to get more gigs and that’s really how it all started.”

Hardwell’s international breakthrough success however, first came from his bootleg of the Robin S classic “Show Me Love” with “Be” by Steve Angello and Laidback Luke which became one of the most played dance tracks of 2009. Members of Swedish House Mafia toured the world blasting the mashup and everyone began to take notice of the rising talent.

That was just the beginning though. In 2010 he formed his own label Revealed Recordings which allowed him to release versatile tracks whether they be progressive, tech house, techno or electro influenced. “…[Revealed Recordings] started like three years ago, and the main reason I started the label was because I didn’t wanted to deal with the A & R managers of the big labels nowadays because I don’t understand how old guys that are 40 years old and never go to the club are going to tell me their opinion about my track. I’m playing like every day in the club and I see exactly what’s happening and I just don’t get why it has to be that way. I just think my opinion is the best when I make a track because I feel it with the crowd every day. That’s the first reason I started my label, and besides that I want to be my own boss with my release schedule, I just want to know when to put my track out so I can put a marketing plan around it, know when I have to upload the teaser and all that stuff, and besides that I think revealed recording is a really cool place for the progressive electro sound, and of course its really inspiring to work with new talent.”

Solo, Hardwell’s sound has been described by its complex and rhythmic drum layers, punchy synths, and melodic chords all creating the perfect mixture for his signature Big Room house style. Early tracks like “Encoded” and “Zero 76” both hit the #1 Beatport and #1 US iTunes spots, establishing him as a new heavyweight contender. Further cementing himself in the top ranks of talent, Hardwell launched his own radio show and podcast in 2011, Hardwell On Air, which is now broadcasted on over 25 international radio stations. Moreover, the podcast is a mainstay in the iTunes’ Top 10 Podcasts in more than 30 countries.

Just recently voted the #1 DJ in the world by the infamous DJ Mag’s Top 100 list, you can currently find Hardwell touring around the world, still high off the success of his hit song with Amba Shepherd, “Apollo” and his most recent release with Matthew Koma in “Dare You.” We’re sure you’ll hear “Dare You” when Hardwell takes the stage for The Day After, taking of Figali Plaza in Panama City, Panama on January 10-12th. The Gift Drop: NERVO celebrates release of 'Revolution;' GTA releases 'The Crowd'

The inaugural The Gift featuring deadmau5 (unhooked), is set to take over Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Thursday, December 26th with artists like Adventure Club, NERVO, GTA and Nom de Strip joining the mau5 on stage. With several weeks remaining before the gates open for the spectacle event, we have plenty of time to stay up-to-date with our talented acts.

For The Gift’s first Drop, we’ve got two of our duos releasing some new music for your listening pleasure – and just in time for the main event too!

NERVO celebrate the release of collab track ‘Revolution’ with Ummet Ozcan and R3hab

artist nervoLiv and Mim of Australian duo NERVO are unstoppable right now. From stellar originals like their track “Hold On” to their hot pairing with Nicky Romero on the track “Like Home,” there’s no denying the impact these two have on the music industry today. Always finding the right proportion between studio time and tour schedule, the ladies just released their latest collaboration “Revolution.”

Teaming up with R3hab and Ummet Ozcan, “Revolution” is a track that will immediately grab to get your attention. On their own, each respective artist is impressive, but together – the result is way more than anything you could expect. Though the festival season is over, the trio of acts deliver that familiar big room sound with a banging peak-time energy that brings back the memories of summer months. Equipped with roaring electro synths and a pounding bassline, this tune will be a staple to main rooms and stages everywhere.

GTA release their latest offering ‘The Crowd’

artist gtaWith a vast arsenal of unreleased material, Miami-based duo GTA always keep their audiences guessing as to what they’ll be releasing next. A few weeks ago, the pair unveiled their new monster, called “The Crowd.” Though the world first heard the track back in the early part of this year (and donning some serious online buzz ever since), the full version of “The Crowd” is out now on Calvin Harris’ Fly Eye imprint.

Following the enormous crowd-pleasing free track, “Yolohton,” “The Crowd” proves why the boys are becoming one of the most exciting acts in dance music today. Sporting a gusto of drum kicks, a booming bassline that can’t be ignored and an absolute monster of a drop, GTA have made magic once again.

Still supporting Rihanna on her Diamonds World Tour dates, GTA are continuing to spread their Death to Genres movement to new audiences everyday. We feel fairly certain that you’ll hear “The Crowd” at The Gift this year.

Monday, December 30th will definitely hold the same M.O., as Hidalgo’s premier holiday event, Winter Fantasy featuring deadmau5 (unhooked) returns to the Rio Grande Valley area at the State Farm Arena (outdoors).

Though we won’t get down at Winter Fantasy for another few weeks, that doesn’t mean our weekends will remain idle. As we blaze through November and December, we’ll be bringing you three mixes every week from an artist on our roster to help get you pumped for the upcoming event.

This week’s weekend warrior is our eclectic talent Nom De Strip. Currently touring with Mat Zo on the Damage Control World tour, Nom de Strip is known for his vivacious house sets ranging in the grittiest of electro to the trippiest of techno and everything in between. This past September 15th, Chris Lake’s imprint Rising Music took over the Diplo and Friends show with a special group of mixes. Chris Lake and TJR provided their talents and Nom De Strip knocked out one hour-long mix for the episode. We love that Nom put his stamp on every track on this playlist. Our bet is that his performances for Winter Fantasy will be the same.

We nearly lost is when the mashup of Nom’s “Techno Saturday” and Breach’s “Jack” came on
