Sun City Music Festival Sound Clash: TJR, GTA

Before we get down in Ascarate Park this weekend, we still have some time to serve up one more sound clash for Sun City Music Festival. On this final edition, we pairing off our “initial” acts who don’t live in the confines of genres. While one act creates a blend of moombahton, house, and trap bangers, the other creates bangers that appeal to a wide array of DJs. We are looking forward to a great workout on the dance floor when TJR and GTA take this stage this weekend!

TJR

artist tjrBorn TJ Rozdilsky, TJR moved to Los Angeles in 2010, immersing himself in the benefits of America’s hot spot for dance music. Though he has been deeply rooted in his acid house and techno roots since 2008, TJR has since built quite the arsenal of remixes and original tracks spanning an assortment of house music sub-genres. Always cooking up big room bangers, TJR has received massive support from DJ’s like Sun City’s own Tiësto and Steve Aoki to other names like Fatboy Slim, Benny Benassi, Dada Life, Calvin Harris, and Umek.

First gaining exposure as a promising new edition to the electro and fidget house circuit, TJR has a love for dirty analog bass, deep, chugging techno grooves, and quirky vocals which he layers into his signature crossover sound. We love TJR’s outlook on his performances. “I want people to let loose. I want them to let out their inner freak. Be as weird as you want — I’m going to be weirder than anyone up on stage.” So if you’re ready to get a little weird, don’t miss TJR on the Sun City stage this Sunday. Tickets are available online.

GTA

artist gtaAlways showcasing their dynamic fusion of styles, Matt van Toth and Julio Mejia of GTA, have been giving dance music a jolt of electricity. Having already released tracks on Mad Decent and Fool’s Gold label with great success, the boys don’t plan on slowing down their quest to bring their sound to the world. The playful duet saw their first single “It’s Time” released on Afrojack’s Wall Recordings, which is not too shabby for a debut. Setting the US alight over the past year with their big, bad, booming productions, their music really lies on the cusp of every genre imaginable. Experimenting with the sounds of trap, house, moombahton, electro and even a touch of salsa, the Miami-based mixologists refuse to be pigeonholed within a specific category. Their popular mix series “Death to Genres,” rings true to their mission statement, blending an assortment of styles into one journey. We can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the table come this Saturday when the boys take over our Bass Dunes stage. Tickets are still available online, so grab yours today!

Sun City Music Festival Artist Profile: Brodinski

artist brodinskiWhen Louis Rogé decided to forgo university and turn Brodinksi into a full-time operation, it was his passion and love for the music that gave him the drive to succeed. Now at the height of his game, Brodinski is a name buzzing on everyone’s lips, whether it’s for his fresh unique pairing of techno and hip hop or his undeniable programming behind the decks.

At the time Brodinski acquired his first computer in the early 2000s at the age of 15, it was truly a blessing to have unlimited music culture at his fingertips. In 2004, thanks to organizers Yuksek and Cyril Jollard, Brodinski scored his first residency at a popular running show in his hometown of Reims called Bonheur Binaire. “They were the first to give me a chance to play in front of more than three people. I consider them to be a big step in the start of my career. I met a lot of people and plenty of artists like Justice, Pedro Winter and Erol Alkan.” But his move to Paris a few years later was ultimately the reason Brodinski’s career began to gain momentum.

Three years after his first residency, Brodinski released his debut track “Bad Runner,” which leaked onto blog sites months before its release on Mental Groove in 2007. Supported by everyone from Soulwax, Tiga, Erol Alkan, A-Trak, Busy P, Switch and Laurent Garnier, the track was a perfect peak time techno track and was one of the sleeper hits of the year. Even though the track was an underground success, Brodinski still doesn’t think of himself as much of a musician. “I make electronic music as a DJ because I don’t think I’m very talented at production. I’m much more into the act of buying or downloading 150 tracks per day instead of going into a studio to make some. Music’s diversity and rapid circulation thanks to the web fascinates me. I’m like a field expert, a kind of test-maker. I am a DJ first, always have been, always will – I’m not a musician.”

With that love of music and its diversity, it’s no surprise that when Brodinski unveiled his latest enterprise, Bromance Records, had an amorously inspired theme – a music label devoted to “people we love.” “I’ve always loved collaborating with other people, ’cause I get bored too easily. When working together, my head gets fed all the time, new ideas come flying from all directions. The more projects I’m involved in, the better! With Bromance I’m taking that feeling to the next level.”

The debut physical release of Bromance was a split EP between Brodinski and fellow French producer and Sun City talent Gesaffelstein with “Control Movement” and “Let The Beat Control Your Body.” With the two being current touring partners, Brodinski has nothing but good things to say about his fellow Frenchman, “He’s such a nice guy! I love him, we connect personally and musically on so many levels — and, importantly, we’re not just friends, but also fans of each other.”

Currently, the Bromance frontman is getting ready to unleash the 11th release for the imprint “Gimme Back The Night” with Theophilus London on September 3rd. We’re sure you’ll hear this newness when Brodinski takes the Beatport stage this weekend for Sun City Music Festival. Tickets are still available, so grab yours before the big day!

Sun City Music Festival Artist Profile: Adventure Club

artist adventure clubChristian Srigley and Leighton James, better known as Adventure Club, have been rapidly ascending the dance music scene since they first got together in 2011. Hailing from Montreal, the duo formed while attending high school as a hardcore pop-punk band, but later decided to move onto the more electronic sound of dubstep, or should we say, “clubstep.” The first song to put the duo on the map was their remix of the song “Daisy” from the studio album of the same title by alternative-rock band Brand New. The song was put on The Hype Machine, and the rest, as they say, is history.

With a studio session early after their initial debut, the boys released a handful of tracks, catapulting them to fame. Remixes of theirs like “Crave You” or “Youth” by Foxes showcase Adventure Club’s characteristic blend of syncopated rhythms, emotional melodies coupled with emotive vocals and smooth bass aligning each track. Some of their signature sound, or the coined, “clubstep,” can also be attributed to the program Cakewalk SONAR that they use to produce their music. Although it isn’t a very popular program, the duo credit it in separating them from the rest of the producing pack.

Currently, if they aren’t in the studio being anonymous superheroes, you can find the boys of Adventure Club touring around the world, delivering their infectious clubstep to the masses. Come get your dose of adventure this August 31st as Adventure Club make their way to the Sun City stage for the return of El Paso’s Sun City Music Festival. There’s still some time to buy your tickets online!

Sun City Music Festival Artist Profile: Le Castle Vania

artist le castle vaniaThings are starting to heat up as we countdown the final weeks ’til Sun City Music Festival. One of our talented artists who knows about heating things up in the studio and on the decks, is internationally known, Atlanta native, Le Castle Vania.

Dylan Eiland began DJing at warehouse parties and raves in Atlanta when he was only 16. The city was an encouragement to the young artist because of its vivacious music scene, allowing him to develop his passion for music and nightlife. But Dylan never thought that he would be where he is today, “I never really set out to do this professionally. I thought it would be cool, but I didn’t even have that picture in my head at all. I never thought, “yeah, I’m gonna be a huge DJ, and I’m gonna tour all over the world” — I wasn’t thinking that at all. I was just having fun, not really taking it seriously, and not doing it as a profession even, ya know? At this point, I’ve reached a certain level where I’ve started taking it a lot more seriously, being a more productive person. I’m still having fun, it’s still my passion, but before I would just write whenever, whereas now I have more drive to be creative, more drive to put more stuff out. Once you reach a certain level, I think you have to start doing that; if you really want to keep growing, then you have to start stepping it up.”

As Le Castle Vania, Dylan has steadily toured since the summer of 2006, taking his catchy electro vibes on the road. But the influences for his music are quite varied. “I take influences from all over; you know, I have a background with rock music and I’m a big fan of rock music, so that definitely influences my sound. When I first started DJing, I was into drum and bass, so I take influence from that sound, as well. Stuff like Joy Division, some old disco stuff, Daft Punk — it’s a big jumble of everything. I’m a big fan of The Mars Volta, also heavier stuff like Refused.”

If he’s not on the road, then Dylan’s in the studio, writing tracks with his signature rock-inspired sound — a perfect marriage of gritty disco punk, memorable synths and soldiering electronic beats. With his debut EP release Prophication due out on mau5trap September 2nd, we’re sure you’ll get a preview when Le Castle Vania takes the stage at Sun City Music Festival this year. His live performances are jam packed with energy and an even better track selection! Tickets are still available for purchase online.

Sun City Music Festival Artist Profile: Ookay

artist ookayIt’s astounding to think that Sun City Music Festival talent Ookay has been producing for less then a year in this incredibly fast-paced, competitive and growing music industry. Within only six months creating music in the burgeoning trap genre, Ookay has created an imprint of a growing sound in clubs and major festivals.

Ookay’s love for eclectic music came at an early age. “I come from jazz and gospel music, I grew up as a little church boy. My dad was a bass player in the church band, and my mom sang in the choir, so I was always around that type of stuff. My dad gave me a lot of insight into that area. When I was younger I listened to a lot of death metal and neo-soul music. I’ve done pretty much every kind of music, that’s why my music is so out there. How I landed into the trap scene is beyond me.”

The masked trap-crusader Ookay scored his first ever Beatport release on Ultra Records as a remix of Congorock and Sean Paul’s “Bless Di Nation.” The remix charted very well on the electronica chart peaking at #10. Already being associated with acts with other Sun City talents like Borgore and Flosstradamus, Ookay was listed as one of Vibe Magazine‘s top Trap/Moombahton artist to watch in 2013. With thousands of people supporting Ookay, there’s no limit to where he may go.

So what can you expect when Ookay takes the stage? “Word around town is that there aren’t a lot of trap DJs using straight CDjs so people are surprised that that’s all I use. I think it helps me connect with the crowd more and put on a show. I get rowdy on stage.” Let’s get rowdy as Ookay takes the Bass Dunes stage at Sun City Music Festival, going down on August 31st and September 1st.
