MK

MK

MK grew up amidst a tough industrial landscape in Detroit. By the time he was 14 he knew music was his destiny and was lucky enough to find his way into the studio with nascent techno legends Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Those early sessions were pure education providing MK with the tools he needed to make timeless tracks like ‘The Rains,’ ‘Burning,’ ‘Always,’ and more. By the mid-1990s, MK was the go-to remix guy, thanks in part to the global success of his million-plus-selling ‘Push The Feeling On’ remix (redo) for The Nightcrawlers. Following the success of ‘Push The Feeling On,’ remix offers from majors and indie labels were nonstop, and tracks like his remix of ‘Freek N You’ for Jodeci, ‘Misled’ for Celine Dion, ‘The Best Things In Life Are Free’ for Janet Jackson, ‘Can You Forgive Her’ for Pet Shop Boys, Mary J. Blige, M People, M.A.W., Blondie, and Brandy were
released.

Toward the late 90s MK’s wish of branching out into other genres of music led him to delve into his other love, hip-hop, R&B and ultimately pop. During this time, he worked with Will Smith, Quincy Jones, Diane Warren, Tyrese, Brandy, and Pitbull to name a few. Then, in 2007, a chance connection with Jamie Jones and Lee Foss led to MK’s return to dance/house music. In 2013, MK surprised us again with his remix of “Look Right Through” by Storm Queen, which went to #1 on the UK charts. Shortly after the success of that remix, others followed like his remix of ‘Forward Motion’ for Hot Natured, Lana Del Ray’s ‘Blue Jeans’ and ‘Summertime Sadness.” It was not long before he had a UK #4 remix for Wankelmut’s ‘My Head Is A Jungle.” Mixes for Sam Smith, Pharrell, Paloma Faith, Ellie Goulding, Disclosure, Haim, Mary J. Blige, Diplo, Sleepy Boo and Rudimental followed. This return to dance was different than the first time as MK returned this time as a DJ as well as producer/remixer.

Currently, MK has his sights set on finishing up his album and putting out the third single with Area10/Columbia, “My Love 4 U” by MK featuring A*M*E. Recently, MK re-launched his iconic label and event brand Area10. He is currently getting ready to wind down from this summer 2016 with his Area10 Fallback Sessions. His Summer included his own curated Area 10 stages at Creamfields, We Are FSTVL, dates at Together at Amnesia in Ibiza, Camp Bisco, V Festivals, Parklife as well as an Area10 takeover at Pacha Ibiza and numerous North American
club dates.

YOOKiE

The art within the artificial: instrumentation computed in utter harmony with the brains of those willing to lend themselves, their ears, and their youth to the ends of ecstasy. Bass presence hums through a melody that leaves a gathering bouncing to its pulse; a perfect synergy of careless consequence and pure energy. It all centers around a single name: “YOOKiE.”

Wilkinson

Hailing from the leafy suburbs of South West London is Ram Records’ Wilkinson. His first insight into making music came aged of 9 when his parents bought him a drum kit. Mark ‘Wilkinson’ joined a few bands playing at venues as far as the Birmingham NEC and as close as the local old peoples home. This swiftly ended at the age of 14 when Wilkinson discovered his passion for dance music. In his final year at college he tried his hand at making beats, leading him to buy his first bits of production gear and turning his bedroom into a studio. A few years and part time jobs later, after driving his family mad with large amounts of bass loosening the brickwork of his house, Mark secured himself a studio not far from his home.

After fine-tuning his production skills, Wilkinson passed a few songs on to Hospital Records via Cyantific, which led to his first release on Hospital’s ‘ Sick Music 2 compilation. A few months later he sent a folder of tunes to Ram Records and within days received a phone call from Andy C inviting him for a meeting at the Ram HQ.

Fast forward a few years later and Wilkinson, now signed to Ram Records/Virgin EMI is being touted as of of the brightest new stars in dance music. Following his club anthems ‘Tonight’, ‘Take You Higher’, ‘Need To Know’, ‘Heartbeat and ‘Too Close’ Wilkinson released ‘Half Light’ charting at 25 and ‘Afterglow’ which became a top 5 hit on the UK Chart, selling 300,000 copies with 20 million Youtube views.

Summer 2014 see’s him perform at the Radio 1 Big Weekend, Glastonbury, Wireless, SW4, Reading, Leeds, T In The Park, EDC Vegas and a run of dates at Amnesia in Ibiza.

Having remixed and collaborated with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Naughty Boy, Chase & Status, Wretch 32, Katy B, Laura Mvula and Nero, he recently scooped ‘Best Single’, ‘Best Album’, ‘Best Video’ and ‘Best Producer’ at the 2014 Drum & Bass Awards.

Fatum

Fatum is a Grammy Nominated American dance group comprised of four musicians – Bill Hamel, Chad Newbold, Bruce Karlsson, and Daniel Davis. With Bill, a veteran in the industry and two time Grammy Nominated producer who has created multiple hits on the Billboard Charts, and Chad having the ear for today’s sound, tomorrow’s next big thing and detailed production, these long time friends have combined their musical passion together to create Fatum, a vessel to make great music and collaborate with today’s best artists including Bruce Karlsson, JES, Boom Jinx, Kevin Wild, and Judah. Nothing is more important to Fatum than producing quality music.

2014 was a break out year for Fatum. With their first release on Black Hole recordings, “Words” feat. Natalie Peris definitely setting the tone early on. Soon thereafter was “Accelerate”, an instrumental club hit that was featured on Andy Moor’s Breaking the Silence 3 compilation, and later released on Andy’s AVA Recordings. These first two releases were supported by some of the world’s top DJs and labels including Above & Beyond, Armada, Myon & Shane 54, Chicane, as well as many others, which translated to massive popularity on the Beatport trance charts.

Fatum has been busy in the studio creating originals and remixes to follow up with their early success. They have finished and released a remix of Enrique Iglesias – Bailando which shot to #1 on the Billboard charts within a week of it’s release. Fatum then had their third original signed to the iconic Ultra Records. The track is entitled “I Ran” featuring the vocals of Mike Score from the band Flock of Seagulls. This track was released in the Fall of 2014, and created a lot of buzz within the EDM community with it peaking at #10 on the Beatport Progressive House chart.

2015 started off right where Fatum left off in 2014. Their first two singles, Anjunabeat’s “Mandala” and Ride Recording’s “Take Me Back” both claimed the Number One spot within Beatport’s Trance genre. Their follow up to these two Number One singles was the Grammy Nominated Remix of “Hold On” with the lovely vocals of JES.

With the success of their current releases, the arsenal of forthcoming collaborations and remixes for the beginning of 2016, the addition of their ever growing podcast, and their extreme passion for music, Fatum has most certainly become one of the primary artists to keep an eye on for the not to distant future.

Angelz

The tail end of 2015 finds ANGELZ on an exciting tip: tearing up his blueprint and digging into his experimental core. Known for pushing boom bap edits onto discerning dance floors and up the charts, the G-House pioneer is irrepressibly drawn to this creative axis as a prodigy and as a rebel.

ANGELZ synthesized hisexperience as a producer and his passion as a music lover. “I’ve always liked the rawness of hip-hop mixed with the repetition of house beats. In my live sets, I’ll take some obscure technotracks and make edits, maybe add acappellas over it, and make them into new tracks. It helps people digest complex genres when you have something familiar.

“The former Def Jam signee, who ghost-produced chart topping beats between homework assignments as a 15-year-old, says “Everyone, the labels, were coming at me, asking me to replicate a track I’d made for someone else. So I started sending them random stuff. I had started listening toDetroittechno and Chicago house, and they were like ‘No one can rap on these beats!’ So they stopped calling.” The demand for conformity reminded him of the time his piano teacher chided him for deviating from the assignment and creating a song instead of studying one.

Testing limits comes easy to ANGELZ, who as a teen was addicted to P2P networks like The Neptunes IRC, “It was super illegal, I didn’t know that Diplo was also on that channel and so was Tyler the Creator.I became a huge hip-hop head in love with Timbaland and the Neptunes. I learned how to sample by listening to Alchemist. I was the biggest pirate,” says the man who adopted the DJ aliasSmashaat age 8 to label the Big beat-ladenmix tapeshe had started making.

Reinvigorated by a reclusive 2011 in Australia with a “crummy laptop”, ANGELZ prepared for his turn in the spotlight as Skrillex was blowing up. “I was really into Justice, Boys Noize, Crookers, Para One,” he says. “I realized then that there’s a market to be your own man.” It was a game changer for ANGELZ, who at 20 already had 8 years of producing rap to his credit but no idea how to DJ or do the “house thing”.

Embracing house wholeheartedly, ANGELZhas gone back to one of his enduring strengths: sampling. The proof is undeniable on his new single “Hey Girl”. To be released by French house-master Tchami, its slow, B-boy hard house groove captures ANGELZ’s new sound. “It’s 100% about the vibe.

“However divergent ANGELZ’s direction may seem, his sonic compass is clearly on point. Though still in his early 20s, ANGELZ’s baroque beats fuse hip-hop’s raw energy and house’s hypnotic rhythms with a psychic’s ear and a veteran’s finesse. Beats that once left executives scratching their heads soon had fans moving their bodies and superstar peers praising him in their sets. The world may not think it’s ready for ANGELZ; fortunately ANGELZ knows better.
