Sunset Music Festival to Support Safer Communities Through Donation to Tampa’s Police Athletic League

Sunset Music Festival announced this week that it is once again teaming up with The Tampa Police to support an innovative community donation program to keep Tampa safer. SMF will donate $15,000 toward the Tampa PD’s newly renovated Police Athletic League (PAL), which helps provide children a highly structured, academically and recreationally balanced afterschool program.

The donation is the second of its type for SMF and follows up last years gift of $10,000. The check was presented Friday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at the new PAL facility.

“As part of Sunset Music Festival’s on-going commitment to Tampa, we have decided to renew and increase our support of the community through the PAL program,” said Donnie Estopinal, CEO of Disco Donnie Presents. “This year’s donation will help provide a youth athletic program to help at-risk youth make positive life choices.”

About the Police Athletic League

The Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is a registered non-profit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to providing affordable after school, summer and athletic opportunities to more than 500 Tampa Bay youth typically from low to moderate-income single parent households. P.A.L. has partnered with the Tampa Police Department to provide a safe, healthy environment for our community’s children and teens. P.A.L.’s partnership with the police department provides mentorship as well as safety and crime prevention programs. In addition, P.A.L. has partnered with a number of community organizations to provide athletic, educational and recreational development. There are currently over 200 children participating in this year’s youth summer camp.

PAL also offers affordable organized sports programs for children who enjoy participating in competitive athletic leagues. The PAL Patriots compete against other Bay Area youth in the City of Tampa Parks and Rec Soccer league and the Pop Warner Youth Football league.

About Sunset Music Festival

Sunset Music Festival is a partnership between Tampa’s Sunset Events John Santoro and Liane Bennati and Donnie Estopinal, CEO of Disco Donnie Presents. Over the past three years, SMF has grown to one of Tampa’s largest festivals with over 50,000 attendees in 2014. Additionally, an economic impact study noted local hotels experienced almost 25% increase in hotel bookings for the 2014 weekend, compared to 2013.

“The goal with Sunset Music Festival is to grow the event for the fans and we’re happy the City of Tampa can benefit too,” said John Santoro of Sunset Events.
