Club Cirque Artist Profile: Nerd Rage

artist nerd rageWhen you see Club Cirque artist Nerd Rage perform live, you’ll notice that his music and stage presence are synonymous with each other. Self-described as loud, aggressive, and in-your-face, the 25 year old jokester continues to create music with good vibes, whether he’s behind the decks or in the studio.

Born in Tampa, FL, Devin Spears has always been an avid lover of music. Playing bass in a metal band when he was in high school, his love for dance music would come later, “I didn’t get into electronic music until I graduated,” creating mostly trance and drum and bass. He began DJing under the moniker DJ Sonic, later scoring a DJ night at G.Bar in Ybor City. As his local fanship grew, so did the amount of shows a week.

Often playing some of his own productions when he performed, Devin developed a strong sense of what type of sound he wanted to create. “Being aware of what I like in music allows me to figure out what I like in a melody, how I like my song to move, how I could picture people grooving to it, how I would groove to it. If I’m sitting in my studio and working on a song and getting tired of it, then I don’t feel like it’s going to be a good tune. But if I’m sitting in front of my computer and laughing and actually rocking along with my tune as I’m writing it, I know it’s going to be great. I know it’s going to do well if I play it live.”

With a clear direction on music creation, a name change and endorsements from some heavy hitters, the Nerd Rage project debuted with the track “Real Life” with Bro Safari in 2011. “A friend of mine suggested [the name] Nerd Rage, and they thought it was really funny, because I play a lot of video games with my friends, and I’m pretty much a nerd. All music producers, in some way, shape or fashion, are huge nerds.” The nerdy single rose to the top of the heap hitting Beatport’s top 10 and was also featured on Beatport’s weekly “Top 10 Must Hear Dubstep Tracks” chart.

Currently, Nerd Rage is turning out originals and remixes left and right with tracks like “Power Treaty” and OCTiV’s “Fatality.” You might hear these gems when Nerd Rage takes the stage inside the bass tent at Club Cirque, but what else might you hear? “I like to bring the full element of metal into the vibe while I’m on stage. Very loud, aggressive, mosh pits, and stage diving. Nonstop jumping and screaming. I want to make sure everyone is able to have the best and most memorable time possible when it comes to the energy and music.”

Let’s get loud with Nerd Rage at the Raymond James Stadium on Saturday, October 19th. Do you have your tickets yet? Tickets are now on sale, buy your tickets today!

Club Cirque Artist Profile: Torro Torro

artist torro torroIt’s hard not to hear a Torro Torro track or remix played at festivals and parties around the world. The duo knows exactly how to create a perfect brand of dance music that’s influenced by hip hop and tropical rhythms.

Based out of Toronto, the duo of Mike (“Digits”) Gonek and Evan “Yo Ev” Norton, met simply by a mutual friend. Mike says, “We had a mutual friend who told me Evan wanted to start a project. I had been involved in a bunch of different production projects prior to Torro Torro and, like Evan, I was looking for something where I could really get my hands dirty on deejaying and the production side of electro and house music. When our friend introduced us to one another, we kinda just clicked.”

Both studying at the University of Toronto, the two explored the world of dance music production. Evan, “Out of the gate, we were both learning the craft of electronic production. At that point, it was two heads going into the studio, and spending a lot of hours trying to navigate through the experience of producing, seeing what formulas worked, and crafting our own sound. Now, we’ve come to the point where there’s a certain balance between the two of us working together in the studio, and each of us spending our own time to craft ideas and find stuff that we’d like to share and hone in on once we’re back together.”

The two first started turning heads in 2009 with their remix of Barletta’s “Panther” and of AutoErotique’s “Gladiator.” Always bringing the same high intensity big room sound that keeps crowds asking for more, their track “Knockin Boots,” released on Tittsworth’s T&A Records, was a certified electro banger being played on dance floors around the world.

Lately, 2013 saw Torro Torro return with three chart topping remixes, one for Interscope Records and two others released on Ultra Music. Opening the year with their remix of “Bless Di Nation” for Congorock and Sean Paul, the two are still riding high from their massive remixes for Zedd’s “Clarity” and Zeds Dead’s “Cowboy,” which both sat near the top of the Beatport charts for weeks after their respective releases.

We’re excited to have our boots knocked by Torro Torro when they perform at Club Cirque in Tampa, FL on Saturday, October 19th. Have you bought your tickets yet?

Something Wicked Sound Clash: Aly & Fila, Adventure Club

We are your friends. You’ll never be alone again – especially if you make your way to Something Wicked in Houston, TX on Saturday, October 26th. Tickets are on-sale; have you bought yours?

For this edition of the Something Wicked Sound Clash, it’s all about friends. And who better to put two sounds under the microscope than friendly, freakish duos Aly & Fila and Adventure Club. Though one is known for their uplifting melodies and the other for the infectious “clubstep,” there’s no denying the energetic sound that will be pumping on the dance floor when both acts perform at the Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, October 26th – no matter just how different those two sounds may be.

Aly & Fila

artist aly and filaAfter falling in love with the music of legends such as Paul van Dyk, Chicane and Armin van Buuren, lifelong Egyptian friends Aly and Fadi, or Fila if you will, decided to pursue their passion of music by trying their hands at the music industry. They first burst onto the international clubbing scene with their massive hit “Eye of Horus” back in 2003. Their euphoric, uplifting blend of trance has seen them gain notoriety around the world. Fadi describes the formula for their unique sound, “It has two sides. 1. It’s very melodic. We always make sure we compose a really strong melody. 2. We mix it with strong beats and bass line. Not to dreamy, just a good balance between melodic and banging! I think that’s the special thing about our sound.”

Launching in 2006, their radio show Future Sound of Egypt has helped catapult the duo to the front lines of the today’s trance movement. Their label of the same name, often abbreviated to FSOE Recordings, is under the respected Armada umbrella and is also responsible for jump-starting the careers of Arctic Moon, Bjorn Akesson, Brave and Tonny Nesse.

Currently celebrating the release of their album Quiet Storm, we can’t wait to see what Aly & Fila bring to the table when they share their uplifting beats at Something Wicked. Buy your tickets today and secure your spot for the celebration.

Adventure Club

artist adventure clubThe Québécois duo of Adventure Club have a certain knack for creating great bass music. Though the two friends originally met while attending high school in Montréal and forming a hardcore pop-punk band, they have since flourished in the sounds of dubstep, and we’re so glad they did!

They first started making waves in the industry with tracks like their remix of Brand New’s “Daisy” which gave them heavy exposure on popular music aggregator site, The Hype Machine. Gaining a near-immediate following for their melodic song structures and more notably for their love of free music, Christian Srigley and Leighton Callou have established a devoted following since their initial inception just two years ago. Whether they are performing on stage or in a mix like their recent Superheros Anonymous Volume 3, their sound flows between their many influences of electro house, dubstep, drumstep, and trap, all the while, keeping their melodic Clubstep sound for the masses. Some of their signature sound is credited to the program that they use to produce their music called Cakewalk SONAR, separating them from the pack.

Having just premiered their track “Gold” on Billboard, the boys are definitely having a stellar year. Always managing to keep a comedic approach to it all, you can catch Adventure Club when they make their way to the Hallows Eve event on Saturday, October 26th. Tickets are on sale, buy your tickets today!
