Thank You AWOL Sun 2013 for Another Unforgettable Experience

The power of music is undeniable. It can take you on amazing journey and soundtrack an experience like nothing else. For AWOL Sun 2013, music took us to the shores of Mexico, returning to where it all began just four years ago. Our Lifers created new memories, built the community and kept the energy going all day, even through the rain on Sunday. Nothing could and would stop them from having a beautiful experience – and that’s what AWOL is truly about. Though we are closing the chapter on this year’s event, which took place October 10-13th, we would like to extend an exuberant THANK YOU to all you Lifers who made AWOL Sun 2013 such an unbelievable success.

Our vacation to Cabo San Lucas was action packed, to say the least. Though some may be a little fuzzy on the exact details, we loved seeing all of you celebrating and dancing to artists under the sun and moon – despite the conditions. A special thanks to all the artists playing in the rain and underneath tarps, especially Anthony Attalla and his monstrous four hour set. You all had the Lifers dancing like crazy in the torrential downpour and Brazilian Lifer Ale Rauen had an incredible energy that we’re still talking about. Lee Foss’ set on Friday night was unbelievable and having him stay an extra two nights just to hang out and spend more time with us was just the icing on the cake. He even played again after Cajmere vs. Green Velvet’s amazing set on Saturday – just for fun.

Thank you again for all of your support and for making our AWOL Sun 2013 an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t do it without you.

We’ll see you next year for AWOL Snow 2014 in January! Dates will be announced soon.

Monster Block Party Artist Profile: Waka Flocka

artist waka flockaMonster Block Party artist Waka Flocka Flame knows the music industry like no other rapper. With over five years in the rap game, Waka is no stranger to the top of Billboard’s US Rap chart with his widely popular studio albums.

Born Juaquin Malphurs in Jamaica, Queens, Waka grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Given the name Waka by his cousin, he came into fame with his first mixtape, Salute Me or Shoot Me, Vol. 1, which featured his breakthrough single “O Let’s Do It.” The single hit #7 on the Billboard’s US Rap chart and #62 on Billboard’s Hot 100. After this milestone, the release of his lead single “Hard In Da Paint” produced by the legendary Lex Luger, pushed his debut album Flockaveli to #6 on the Billboard 200. The sound of this track exposed a mind-blowing combination of synth brass leads and machine gun drum samples.

Waka released his sophomore album Triple F Life: Friends, Fans, & Family with artists like Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., Flo Rida and Drake who was featured on the popular track “Round Of Applause.” Currently, Waka Flocka is readying for his third album, Flockaveli II. With Atlantic Records as his new label, Waka is making some new changes in his career. “I’m highly educated now music industry wise. I’m not just somebody jumping into a field I don’t know. I actually learned it through a couple of methods, put my blueprint out on display and it worked not just for me and the company I was working with, but numerous people’s careers. Basically I know my shit now–I know what I need to win.” The album, due out in 2014, will feature dance music heavy weights Skrillex, Diplo, and the trap twosome, Flosstradamus. Showing the dance music world what it takes to “win,” Waka Flocka recently joined forces with Borgore and Paige to release their new single “Wild Out.”

We’re excited to see Waka’s latest evolution of rap and dance music. “I’m not bullsh*ttin’ with this album. I’m going hard.” Get ready for the coming of Waka Flocka Flame when he hits the stage in Nashville at Monster Block Party on Saturday, October 26th. Grab your tickets today!

Something Wicked Artist Profile: Sean Tyas

artist sean tyasA New York native now residing in Switzerland, Something Wicked artist Sean Tyas first burst on the scene in 2006 when Sander van Doorn selected him as the winner of the “Punk’d’ Remix Competition.” The Discover label later went on to sign up his early releases like “Lift” which grabbed the attention of many in the trance community.

As part of a new age of trance DJs, Sean has stood out among the rest by creating a recognizable trance style and sound. “Back in the late 90s, I started listening to sets from early Paul van Dyk, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten and Paul Oakenfold. I was previously into hardcore, gabber, jungle and drum and bass, so this was a huge change for me and a beautiful sound compared to the others. My all time biggest inspiration was Paul van Dyk. He began this specific type of trance and I don’t think anyone can deny that.”

With a pin point on his signature sound, Sean Tyas began to emerge as one of the most talented and in demand producers in the industry today, working with the likes of Armin van Buuren on “Intricacy” and requested remixer for “Suburban Train” for Tiësto, “Oceanic” for Above & Beyond and “Waiting’ for Dash Berlin.

Sean’s meteoric rise has been is reflected in various accolades such as being awarded “Best New Face” at the Trance Awards, “Best New DJs” slot on Mixmag’s list and also appearing on Beatport’s “One To Watch.”

Sean’s in demand sounds are backed by a genuine love for the music and a clear passion for his fans. Having toured the world performing at the most prestigious dance music festivals with his mixing style and a recognizable trance sound, we can’t to hear Sean’s intensely serene sounds when he takes the stage on Saturday, October 26th for Houston’s Something Wicked 2013.
