We're Rockin' in Rio with Metallica, Foster the People, and Deftones during Rock in Rio this May

Taking place over two weekends on May 8-9th and May 15-16th, Rock in Rio is making its American debut in the party capital of Las Vegas. The ultimate party will have six stages and three themed Rock Streets spread over a whopping 37 acres. Each stage has been expertly curated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, no matter their genre. No Doubt, Metallica, Taylor Swift, and Bruno Mars will each headline a night of their own and don’t you fret fellow dance music fans – we get spoiled in Rio with our own EDM stage featuring a collection of tastemakers, producers, and DJs known around the world and in the region.

Musicians fuse a multitude of influences and sub-genres in their songs and this Rock in Rio lineup is no different. Despite dubbing May 8-9th as the Rock Weekend and May 15-16th as the Pop Weekend, Rock in Rio is way more then just a rock and pop concert; in the same vein, the music isn’t just one broad genre either. So to celebrate the diversity of the lineup, we will be highlighting a few artists from the loosely defined “rock, pop, and dance” categories in a new blog series called Rockin,’ Poppin,’ and Dancin’ in Rio.

Explore the many styles and sounds of Rock in Rio before you join the party this May. Weekend and single-day passes are on-sale now!

Rockin’ in Rio

Rooted in R&B, country, and jazz, Rock, or Rock n’ Roll as it were, is now one of the main anchors for identifying music styles. Though it originated in the United States back in the 1950s, its widespread acceptance internationally has helped spawn over 30 different sub genres.

From Alt rock to Brit rock; Punk, Grunge, or Metal – our lineup has a lot of rock-infused names on the bill. Here are three artists who will be Rockin’ in Rio

Metallica

Metallica is undeniably one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands of all time. Formed in 1981, their 30+ year history helped shaped metal, rightfully earning nine Grammy Awards and a spot on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Watch Metallica headline Rock in Rio on Saturday, May 9th.

Foster the People

Floating between rock’s shoe gaze wave and psychedelic haze, Foster The People have been pumping up kicking tunes since 2010. Their washed out sound is as catchy as it is well-crafted, releasing a sonic mixture of atmospheres you can get lost and/or rock out to. Catch Foster the People at Rock in Rio on Friday, May 8th.

Deftones

Deftones are known for their unique panorama of sound that layers soft, ambient waves over pummeling sludge-metal. With a penchant for songs with gradual builds, layered guitar distortion, and ascending melodies, Deftones bring a unique rock fusion to Rock in Rio on Saturday, May 9th.
