Producer, DJ and Sound Wave talent Treasure Fingers far from a new name is the music industry. Before he was pounding out innovative (and highly requested) remixes and original tracks, Ashley Jones racked up over a decade’s worth of experience as part of the legendary drum and bass outfit, Evol Intent. As Treasure Fingers, he’s found a way to blend his assortment of influences into a signature sound that’s filled with detailed bass lines, glitchy, gritty synth melodies, and party-ready drum layers.
Hailing from Oklahoma, Atlanta-based Jones found his love of music at a fairly early age, “I started really young about 12 or 13 years old, with just a 4track, drum machine and whatever else I could find that made noise. Mostly hip hop stuff, but that transformed into trip hop and IDM, then drum and bass, house and whatever else came along. Probably my earliest influences to actually start producing were all the west coast rap dudes – Dre, Ant Banks, DJ Quik, etc. As far as dance music goes, I’d say Armand Van Helden, Thomas Bangalter, Bob Sinclar, Photek, Ed Rush & Optical, Technical Itch have been some of my inspirations.”
The world first saw the name Treasure Fingers with his debut in 2008 with “Cross The Dancefloor” on Fool’s Gold Records. The catchy, vocoder-laced two-step was an instant classic and received support from artists like Erick Morillo, Pete Tong and Annie Mac. “It started out as just an instrumental filter disco house type track. Then one day I decided to try to put vocals on it. The next day I thought it might be cool to have some girl vocals responding back to my male vocals. The overall production is pretty simple, just a clean kind of poppy track. There’s a sample in there (the filtered disco part during the first breakdown), but I played the rest of the synths, bass, drums and built the track up around the sample just in case we couldn’t get it cleared. Luckily, it got cleared and I’m blown away at how well the song as done thus far.”
After the dust settled from his massive debut, Jones kept the momentum going with his Lift Me EP on the revered Defected imprint and the with the popular track “Keep Up” which featured Haley Small. Outside of his stellar originals, Jones is a highly sought after remixer, providing his edit chops for artists like Avicii, Chromeo, Empire of the Sun, Kid Cudi and James Curd – the remix for the latter went to #1 on the Beatport Club chart. An enduring favorite on Hype Machine, Jones keeps a busy worldwide touring schedule joining greats like Fake Blood, A-Trak, Laidback Luke, Felix da Housecat and Benny Benassi on the road.
