Holland based duo Firebeatz have made a reputable name for themselves in dance music. The Something Wicked duo consisting of Tim Smulders and Jurre van Doeselaar first stormed onto the music scene in 2008 and today, they continue to wow listeners with their innate musical chemistry.
Even before the inception of Firebeatz, the boys were always interested in music. Tim used to DJ drum and bass before taking up house music and Jurre learned music production on a Roland MC 505 before he started playing local clubs at 16. Their love of music would eventually bring them together in school. “We met each other at The School of Arts for Music Production. And that’s where we met and there was like an assignment to work together and yeah that’s where it all started. We made a track together and it worked really well and it got played by DJ’s and then got released, we were like well we should do something with this and that’s where Firebeatz started.”
In the summer of 2008, Firebeatz released their first single “Speak up” and shortly after, released “We’re Going Back.” With their unique sound of infectious bass hooks, grooves, compulsive beats and pristine vocals, the tracks received massive airplay on Dutch radio stations. “We started to make some tracks together and noticed that we had the chemistry going and we never stopped since and it worked out great. Somehow people like what we do and play/buy our stuff and book us, that’s how we can keep doing what we love to do.”
Though we love their originals, Firebeatz have a knack for remixing and collaborations too. Having produced official remixes for artists like Pitbull, James Blunt, Snoop Dogg, Freestylers, Flo-Rida, Timbaland and many more, the summer of 2012 brought a collaboration with Chocolate Puma for the track “Just One More Time Baby.” Receiving rave reviews from BBC Radio, “Just One More Time Baby” topped Beatport’s House chart for several weeks. Following that track’s success was one of their biggest collaboration to date, “Dear New York.” Featuring rising talent Schella, the single shot up Beatport’s main chart remaining the top 10 for several weeks.
This year continues to be an enormous success for the duo with club bangers like “Gangster,” “Ding Dong” and an exclusive remix of “Thinking About You” by Calvin Harris and Ayah Marar. Though their current tour schedule is full of festival gigs and performances around the globe, Firebeatz are making a stop in Houston on Saturday, October 26th at Something Wicked.
