Spring is finally here, and with its arrival, comes an event that music fans in greater New Orleans look forward to. Jazzfest by Nite takes over the Big Easy every for two weeks in April to feature music from some of the industry’s most well-known names. The 2014 edition will be no different as Disco Donnie Presents and Ampersand Events, and Soul’d Out Productions join forces once again to bring Pretty Lights to perform at Champions Square during the epic event on Saturday, April 26th.
Pretty Lights had a whirlwind summer in 2013. His highly-anticipated two-disc album A Color Map of the Sun debuted at #2 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Charts and landed him a well-deserved Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album in 2014.
Outside of its huge success in the public eye, A Color Map of the Sun also set a precedent for Pretty Lights’ growth as an artist. Though he’s called himself a “sample collage” artist in the past, the Colorado-based producer decided it was time to create songs from scratch, “Before, I’d combine 25 samples into one song,” he explains, “this time, I was going to create my own original sources, retaining the timbre that spans the great musical era of the last century — from modern classical and jazz, to 60s soul and beyond.”
Going completely analog for the release, much of A Color Map of the Sun was recorded at New Orleans’ own Piety Street Recording studio with many local musicians and vocalists. Returning to the city for first time since production ended, Pretty Lights will be performing with a live band for a unique, one-night-only experience at Jazzfest by Nite on Saturday, April 26th. VERY special guest appearances including Preservation Hall Jazz Band Horns, Eric Krasno, Hot 8 Brass Band, and more.
