“We are your friends! You’ll never be alone again, so come on!”
These are quite possibly one of the best lyrics to echo Meltdown Music Festival‘s 2013 motto of “We Are All Together.” And it helps that the song the lyrics came from, featured, none other, than Meltdown headliner, Justice (DJ Set).
Stylized like Justice, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay have left in-erasable impact on dance music. The two first started to gain recognition through their 2003 remix of Simian’s track “Never Be Alone,” originally created for a Paris college radio station’s remix contest. The remix and Justice, were both eventually scooped up by Ed Banger Records and became a club and internet sensation. The song was re-released in 2004 and eventually given a commercial release in the summer of 2006 and renamed “We Are Your Friends.”
The following year, Justice cemented themselves in anthem status by asking the world one question, “Do you D.A.N.C.E.?” The song was featured on their debut album †released in 2007, which was later nominated for a Grammy under the Best Electronic/Dance Album category. Though it was shortlisted that year, their remix of the MGMT song “Electric Feel” won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2009.
