Club Cirque Artist Profile: Borgore

artist borgoreProducer, DJ, rapper and singer Borgore is undeniably one of the leaders of today’s bass movement. Known for pioneering a new style to a then burgeoning genre, this self-proclaimed “Ruiner of Dubstep” (and provocation addict) may have ruined dubstep, but he did it in the best way possible.

Hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, Asaf Borger completely immersed himself in music at a very early age. He first took to the piano at the age of three, moving onto the saxophone and drums throughout most of his formative years. While he studied classical and jazz in school, his passion for the style dwindled, “Anyone can draw squares but for it to be art you have to convince people you are a talented artist who can draw whatever you feel like, and in that case it’s a square. In order for me to make whatever music I feel like, I had to be very familiar with music’s basics.”

Getting his feet wet in the industry before his 21st birthday, Asaf played drums in the death metal band Shabira before making his mark on the world as Borgore. Drumming experience has helped him in the long run as he began gaining exposure due to his unique style using triplet drum patterns. His debut release, Gorestep Vol. 1 featured the underground classic “Love,” which was loved by almost all audiences, partially because of its questionable lyrics. But how did the release become so popular? Borgore provided some insight, “I would have say Myspace, a good team behind me, fans and a lot of luck. There’s endless amount of talent but sometimes in order to get big, you just need to be at the right place at the right time. To be fair, I didn’t get much money during my first tour in the US but it was about self promotion. While most produced deep dubstep, I made heavy dubstep with retarded lyrics which makes the link between the common commercial hip hop-loving American to the UK electro scene easier for most.”

Every year since his first release, Borgore’s popularity has continued on an upward incline. This year has been no different as the provocateur started off with his with the viral success of his single “Decisions” with celebutante Miley Cyrus. His release with Carnage titled “Incredible,” hit #1 on Beatport and quickly became a staple at Miami Music Conference this season.

Currently getting ready to embark on a nationwide tour with Steve Aoki and Waka Flocka, we are excited to welcome Borgore and the Aokify America Tour to the inaugural Club Cirque, taking over Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on October 21st.
