AWOL Snow: Donald Glaude Artist Profile
It’s hard to believe that in just two weeks, Another Way Of Life: Snow will be underway in the beautiful town of Whistler, British Columbia. We agree the thought of playing in mountains full of snow is quite exciting, but what about music? As you know, AWOL has booked some amazing, award-winning talent, so why not learn more about them? Donald Glaude is a great start as he has been a pioneer of house music for well over two decades. Taking inspiration musical prodigies like George Clinton and Funkadelic, Glaude immediately drawn to the soulful rhythms and energetic vibe of house. After teaching himself how to mix, with a pair of non-matching turntables and a Radio Shack mixer, Glaude began to DJ at various venues in his hometown of Tacoma, Washington and Seattle, pioneering the DJing style and sound that helped to define the rave scene on the west coast.
Aiding Glaude in sparking Seattle’s party scene was friend, and fellow aspiring DJ, DJ Dan, who, coincidentally, was instrumental in Glaude becoming a permanent fixture at San Francisco’s legendary Funky Tekno Tribe. This gig may have put his name in the lips of many, but Glaude is not the type to want success on a mainstream level. He believes house music should be an experience that provokes the soul, which is another reason why he has an unparalleled ability have an emotional connection with any audience. Whether it’s his exuberant sets or talent on the decks, there is definitely a reason he is called the “James Brown of DJs.” Continuing to be “The Hardest Working American DJ,” we’re excited to host Donald Glaude at this years AWOL: Snow, March 1st-3rd.
