SXSW 2013
South by Southwest (SXSW) Music is the largest music festival of its kind in the world. Last year, the music festival showcased 2,286 acts, 547 of which came from 49 foreign countries, who all performed on 104 stages. SXSW’s continual forward-thinking and innovation has made the brand a staple amongst the most influential businesses in the music industry.
This year will mark the second time Disco Donnie Presents has showcased during the music portion of SXSW, going on, March 12–17, 2013. Although, this time, we’re packing four very different showcases all at Republic Live in Austin, TX during the highly-anticipated week. No matter what kind of dance music you’re into, Disco Donnie Presents will have a series especially for you.
Presenting the Dirty South Speed of Life Tour!
Producing DJ, Dragan Roganovic, or Dirty South, has had quite the journey experimenting with sound throughout his lifetime, improvising mixing with turntables for mixing with tape decks at just the ripe age of 13. As he grew older, his appetite for production grew as well, intently working on remixes and mashups of other artists’ tracks and as a result, 2004 saw the first release under the moniker Dirty South. Moreover, Dragan distributed his own productions worldwide, and in doing so, eventually caught the eye of Australian Vicious Vinyl Records, who went on to sign him in 2005. Shortly there after, came an influx of releases and remixes, all adorning the Dirty South name.
Known for memorable anthems like “Open Your Heart” with Axwell and “How Soon Is Now” with David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso, Dirty South is definitely a staple on the iPod of any dance music fan. As a producer, he has been nominated for and won a numerous amount of awards and accolades including being nominated for a Grammy twice and having many releases called an “Essential New Tune,” by the legendary Pete Tong. Currently, Dirty South has just released his brand new artist album, Speed of Life. And by recently, we mean only days ago. Currently sitting at the #2 position on iTunes overall Dance chart, Speed of Life is inspired by his many adventures around the world, coincidentally, the album was made almost entirely on the road. And with the announcement of his North American tour and an impending Essential Mix coming out later this year, 2013 looks to be the year of the Dragan. Follow along with Disco Donnie Presents as we go phazing a million miles away to a city near you!

Magnetic Music Festival Artist Profiles: Zeds Dead
“Whose chopper is this?”
“It’s Zed’s.”
“Who’s Zed?”
“Zed’s dead, baby. Zed’s dead.”
While the name “Zeds Dead” is a reference to a classic scene in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction, it is also a monogram for the members’ names, Zack and Dylan. Dylan Mamid, artist name DC, and Zack Rapp-Rovan, artist name Hooks, are the duo behind the Canadian dance music outfit, Zeds Dead. The two first paired together in 2004 when they formed their original group, Mass Productions–a group that was heavily influenced by sampling hip-hop. The only releases Mass Productions has to date, is their album out in 2007 entitled, Fresh Beetz. Looking at our lineup, clearly we like fresh beats as well, but we’re glad they decided to scrap Plan A move on to Plan Zed.
The summer of 2009 in Toronto, Ontario would see the boys’ first outing as Zeds Dead. DC and Hooks had been working on creating electronic beats, and showcased their tracks at their debut performance at The Social in 2009. About a year later, Zeds Dead was booked as a weekly for a gig in Toronto, called “Bassmentality.” The two would go on to release a track by the same name in 2011 as a tribute to the friends and fans who were involved.
Still high on the success of their Hot Sauce EP out on Mad Decent, and with an impending performance in June in Afghanistan alongside Kid Rock and Garth Brooks, 2013 is shaping to be the most exciting year for the boys. We are glad to have them join our inaugural lineup on April 20th, for the Magnetic Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia!
