Sun City Music Festival Artist Profile: Deniz Koyu
Sun City Music Festival is brimming with talented artists of all ages from all around the globe. One act on our roaster who is a prime example of this is Deniz Koyu.
German-born Turk Deniz Akcakoyunlu’s musical prowess began to take shape at a very early age. “I started playing piano when I was a kid, when I was six years old. I got lessons in a music school for a couple of years.” He would later go on to discover a love of synthesizers and drums, getting inspiration from artists like Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, and Kraftwerk. Through his teenage years, Deniz spent his days DJing and editing his favourite tracks using small tape recorders and sampling everything he could. “It took me a while until I got my first keyboard, synthesizers and music software… when I was a teenager, about 15 years old. I got into the music industry when I started making music for fashion brands for websites when I was sixteen. I got some contacts and made some lounge music. Then I started listening to music from Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, and of course Daft Punk. I got hooked on it, so then I tried to produce that kind of music. That’s how I got into it.”
His hard work would start to pay off in 2011 when Deniz’s releases “Tung,” “Hertz,” and his remixes for James Blunt’s “Dangerous” and Kaskade’s “Turn It Down” became huge house anthems at clubs and festivals around the globe, being heavily played by Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and other Sun City acts like Tiësto and Alesso. In the same year, Fedde Le Grand voted Deniz the “Breakthrough DJ/Producer 2011,” while Sebastian Ingrosso called him “big time talent.” His list of accolades would continue in 2012 when MTV added Deniz to their “EDM Rookies To Watch” list, calling him “a blazing new talent.”
Deniz trail-blazed through the start of 2013 with a release on Dirty South’s Phazing label, titled “Halo,” the “Generation Wild” Tour with other Sun City talent Danny Avila which hit up 20 cities in 25 days across North America, and not to mention his highly anticipated release “Rage” on Sebastian Ingrosso’s Refune imprint. We hope to get a little “wild” ourselves when Deniz Koyu takes the stage at this year’s Sun City Music Festival. Buy your tickets today and let’s get bongbastic August 31st and September 1st!

Just Blaze
Over the past 15 years, Just Blaze has become a fixture in Hip Hop music and culture. He began producing for well-known artists in the late 1990s, leading to a breakout role in producing the majority of Jay-Z’s “The Dynasty: Roc La Familia” and his follow-up opus “The Blueprint”. He’s reached international fame for his production of Cam’ron’s 2002 summer smash “Oh Boy”. Since then, he’s gone on to produce for Snoop Dogg, Usher, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Drake, and many more. Between producing five tracks on Eminem’s Grammy-winning comeback album “Recovery”, hosting Viacom’s DJ competition show “Master of the Mix”, upcoming projects with Ludacris, Fabolous, Jay-Z, and creating soundscapes for Twentieth Century Fox’s “Ice Age 4”, Just shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Deniz Koyu
Deniz Koyu has without doubt proven to be one of the most promising talents to watch out for since 2011.
His course to become a musician was set at the tender age of five when he began to learn the piano. It didn’t take long until he discovered his enthusiasm for synthesizers and drums, getting inspiration from artists such as Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk or Cassius. It is no surprise he followed suit, spending his pocket money on all the second-hand synths and drum machines he could find. Through his teenage years, Deniz spent his days DJing and editing his favourite tracks using small tape recorders and sampling what he could.
In 2011 Deniz’ single releases “Tung” and “Hertz” on Flamingo Recordings and his remixes for James Blunt’s “Dangerous” and Kaskade’s “Turn It Down” evolved into huge house anthems at clubs and festivals around the globe, being played over and over by Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, Fedde Le Grand, Avicii, Alesso, Erick Morillo, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, you name it.
Fedde Le Grand voted Deniz “Breakthrough DJ/Producer 2011”, Sebastian Ingrosso called him “big time talent”, and Axwell replied to the question of a Swedish journalist if he had personal favourites among young DJs: “Deniz Koyu. He makes damn cool music at the moment.”
In 2012 MTV added Deniz to their “EDM Rookies To Watch” list, calling him “a blazing new talent” and putting him in good company with Alesso, Zedd, R3hab and Nicky Romero. Deniz was hand-picked by Axwell to play at the world premiere of Cosmic Opera in New York, performed at Ultra Music Festival Miami on the peak of his North America headline tour and got confirmed for his first-ever Sensation White appearances.
Production-wise Deniz kicked off 2012 with a remix for Fedde Le Grand’s “So Much Love”, a heavyweight collaboration with Fedde and Johan Wedel on “Turn It”, and his uber-hit single “Bong”. Next up was a new track with Wynter Gordon called “Follow You” and stunning remixes for Zedd, Digitalism, Miike Snow and David Guetta.
Deniz Koyu is starting 2013 in style with the release of his much anticipated release “Halo” with Dirty South on his Phazing label. In February Deniz will launch the “Generation Wild” Tour, taking him to 20 cities in 25 days in North America. March 2013 sees the the follow-up to “Bong”: the new EDM anthem “Rage” which will be released on Sebastian Ingrosso’s Refune imprint.
